CHARLESTON, S.C. It rained for 41 minutes prior to the start of the Piedmonts
game with Charleston on Wednesday night, but a little rain had no effect whatsoever on
Boll Weevil pitcher Carlos Silvas continuing reign over the South Atlantic League. Silva (5-1) threw Silva
bullets at the RiverDogs for seven innings, holding them to three hits. Cary
Hiles kept the Dogs from barking in the eighth and ninth to earn his 13th save.
Things are going almost too well
when two bench players team up to provide the only run of the game, but thats
exactly what happened for the Weevils last night.
Backup catcher Jerry Valdez,
serving as the designated hitter, scored that lone run when Uriel Casillas singled him
home in the seventh inning.
Valdez, Casillas and Jeremy
Salazar had two hits each for the Weevils, who bounced back nicely from a frustrating loss
to Savannah on Tuesday.
Piedmont is 26-20, while the
RiverDogs slipped to 25-22 in the hotly-contested Central Division race. The teams will
play again tonight in Charleston.
Brad Baisley (4-5) will hurl for
the Weevils. |
