Sylvia Coble Bagwell, 58, 615 Mountain Place, died Saturday (Dec. 25, 1999) at her
home.
Born March 28, 1941, in Rowan County, Mrs. Bagwell
was a daughter of Nannie Deal Coble, Albemarle, and the late Raymond Coble. She and her
husband, Harold D. Bagwell, formerly owned the Sweet Shop.
Survivors, in addition to her husband and mother,
include daughters Cathy B. Almond, Pamela B. Scott and Tammy B. Randall, all of New
London; and five grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, West Albemarle Baptist
Church, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Richardson and the Rev. Mike Dunn. The body will be
placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Matthew Patrick Bialy
The funeral will be Wednesday for Matthew Patrick
Bialy, 77, who died Thursday (Dec. 23, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born July 23, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., he was a son
of the late Anthony and Pietronela Lupinska Bialy. He owned and operated a vending company
in Orlando, Fla., before his retirement. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, he served
during World War II and the Korean War.
His wife, Mary Bialy, died July 29, 1997.
Survivors include daughter Angelina B. Stoyanov,
Salisbury; stepdaughters Delores Staley, Orlando, Fla., and Georgia Argo, Gatlinburg,
Tenn.; brothers Ben, Hank, Gene and Bobby Bialy, all of Chicago, Ill.; sisters Helen B.
Sharpe, Dallas, Texas, and Loretta B. MacDonald, New Braunfels, Texas; 14 grandchildren;
13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Belle Rash Hartsoe
KANNAPOLIS The funeral is today for Belle
Rash Hartsoe, 83, 708 Chapel St., who died Friday (Dec. 24, 1999) at her home after seven
years of declining health and six months of serious illness.
Born June 17, 1916, in Ashe County, Mrs. Hartsoe
was a daughter of the late Hamilton and Margaret Woodard Rash. She retired in 1973 after
many years from Cannon Mills plant 1 sheet department. She was a member of Centerview
Baptist Church.
Her husband, Elmer Wilson Hartsoe, died in 1973,
and a son, Elmer Wilson Hartsoe Jr., died in May 1985.
Survivors include daughter Phyllis H. Sides,
Kannapolis; son Gwyn Hartsoe, Kannapolis; brother Joe Rash, Bristol, Tenn.; sisters Emma
Cook, Bakersville, Julie Mullis, Concord, and Geneva Burton, Lenoir; four grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday for Gracie Mae
Johnson, 55, 916 Scales St., who died Tuesday (Dec. 21, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical
Center after two years of declining health.
Born May 23, 1944, in Gaston County, she was a
daughter of the late Carroll Pete and Cleva Mae Moore Odom. A graduate of Lincoln County
public schools, she was a former employee of Premiere Cushion Inc. She was a member of
Henderson Grove Baptist Church, where she was treasurer of the spiritual choir and past
president of the usher board.
Survivors include daughters Angela Vontina
Johnson, of the home, and Michelle Lavern e Odom, Hickory; brothers James, Walter, Jerry
and Jackie Ray Odom, all of Lincolnton, and Jeffery Odom, Orlando, Fla.; sister Betty Jean

KANNAPOLIS The funeral is today for Joe
Albert Mullinax, 80, 1000 N. Ridge Ave., who died Friday (Dec. 24, 1999) at NorthEast
Medical Center, Concord, after two months of declining health and a week of serious
illness.
Born Dec. 6, 1919, in Cabarrus County, Mr.
Mullinax was a son of the late Fred Eugene and Janie Wilson Mullinax. He retired in 1987
after 50 years from Cannon Mills plant 1 pipe shop. He was a member of Memorial United
Methodist Church, which he helped to construct, and served in the U.S. Navy during World
War II. He was a member of Allen-Graham Masonic Lodge 695.
Survivors include wife Virginia McIntyre Mullinax;
sons Gene Mullinax, Senoia, Ga., and Rick Mullinax, Kannapolis; daughter Jane M. James,
Kannapolis; sister Ruth M. Parker, Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.

Perry Douglas Strider
KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Tuesday for
Perry Douglas Strider, 44, 8925 Abby Lane, who died Saturday (Dec. 25, 1999) as a result
of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born Oct. 27, 1955, in Iredell County, Mr. Strider
was a son of the late Alfred P. Strider and the son and stepson of Doris Cavin Ballard and
Jack Ballard of Kannapolis. He owned and operated Auto Service, Kannapolis.

stepfather, include wife Tammy Greene Strider; son Mitchell Douglas Strider, of the home;
sister Susan Berquist, Kannapolis; brother Mike Strider, Kannapolis; and grandmother Abbie

Charles F. Craver
LEXINGTON The funeral will be Tuesday for
Charles F. Craver, 81, 204 Ridgewood Drive, who died Friday (Dec. 24, 1999) at Lexington
Memorial Hospital.
Born March 10, 1918, in Rowan County, Mr. Craver
was a son of the late John Davidson and Ida Tesh Craver. A lifelong resident of Davidson
County, he began his career with Piedmont Funeral Home in 1935 and graduated from
Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1939, when he received his license to practice funeral
service.
Mr. Craver later acquired a portion of the
business and was named general manager and vice president until his semi-retirement in
1986. He continued to work on a part-time basis until 1995.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church,
where he was in the John Wesley Bible Class. He was also a member of Memorial Masonic
Lodge 696 AF & AM and Lexington Civitan Club. He was a former member and president of
the Jaycees.
Survivors include wife Myra Hutchins Craver, whom
he marred in 1935; son Charles Myron Chuck Craver, of the home; brother Burke
H. Craver, Chesapeake, Va.; two grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.

City Cemetery, conducted by Dr. J. Hurley Thomas III and the Rev. Jill Alventosa Brown.

ALBEMARLE Margaret Ruth Burris Eudy, 83,
24556 Cherokee Road, died Sunday (Dec. 26, 1999) at Britthaven of the Piedmont.
Born Feb. 16, 1916, in Stanly County, Mrs. Eudy
was a daughter of the late Ellis and Junie Burris. She retired as a winder hand from
Wiscasett Mills and was a member of Canton Baptist Church.

Bud Eudy; sons Ervin Eudy, Oakboro, Lamar Eudy, Statesville, and Sidney Eudy,

Rev. Eugene Goodman
KANNAPOLIS The Rev. Eugene Goodman, 72,
1000 Ebenezer Road, died Sunday (Dec. 26, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Sept. 27, 1927, in China Grove, he was a son
of the late J.B. and Addie Bell Cox Goodwin. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he was
a graduate of Fruitland Bible Institute in Hendersonville and earned his doctor of
divinity from Emmanuel Baptist University, Connelly Springs, and also studied at Carolina
Bible College, Concord.
Rev. Goodman served as pastor for over 45 years at
Pine Ridge Baptist Church, China Grove; Needmore, Woodleaf; Cornatzer, Mocksville; Lane
Street, Kannapolis; Wyatts Grove, Richfield; Oswalt, Troutman; Turner Creek, Yadkinville,
and Landis Baptist. He taught for five years at Carolina Bible College.
Survivors include wife Jewel McSwain Goodman;
daughters Shelia Jean Lear and Becky Kiser, both of Mooresville, Patricia Rogers,
Kannapolis, and Carol Goodman, Salisbury; brothers George Goodman, Salisbury, Harold
Goodman, China Grove, and James Goodwin, Kannapolis; sisters Frances Williams, Mildred
Fleming and Brenda Morgan, all of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.

William Ferd House, 82, 160 Northcrest St., formerly of Brian Center, Concord, who died
Friday (Dec. 24, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a period of declining
health.
Born Feb. 27, 1917, in Georgia, Mr. House was a
son of the late Carlton Ferd and Zuma Gilespie House. A Baptist, he retired in 1980 as a
self-employed brick mason. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a
resident of Kannapolis since 1938.
His wife, Addie Lou Vaughn House, died Aug. 26,
1997.
Survivors include son Charles House, Kannapolis;
daughters Glenna H. Pigg, Charlotte, and Georgia V. Ruecker, New Port Richey, Fla.; nine
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Born Feb. 4, 1936, in Chicago, Ill, she was a
daughter of the late Lawrence and Helen Frank. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United
Methodist Church and was retired as first line manager of sales and service for Pac Bell
Telephone Company.
Survivors include husband Johnnie Frank Jones;
daughters Barbara Simon, Antiock, Calif. and Elizabeth Guterring, Merced, Calif.; brother

ROCK HILL, S.C. Betty Dean Dedmon Millis,
74, 2182 Lannie Lane, died Tuesday (Dec. 21, 1999) at Chester County Hospital.
Born March 19, 1925, in Salisbury, N.C., Mrs.
Millis was a daughter of the late Herbert and Sally Foster Dedmon. She graduated from
Boyden High School, Salisbury, N.C., and retired from Belks Department Store. She was a
member of First Baptist Church of Chester.
Her husband, L.A. Millis Jr., preceded her in
death.
Survivors include son Len Millis, Harrisonburg,
Va.; daughter Debra M. Thomas, Greer; sister Addie Bell Henderson, Salisbury, N.C.;
brothers Rad Dedmon, Salisbury, N.C., and George Dedmon, Ringgold, Ga.; three grandsons;
