MOORESVILLE Edna Pope Cashion, 84, 1107
Shearers Road, died Wednesday (Dec. 22, 1999) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
Born Feb. 12, 1915, in Iredell County, Mrs.
Cashion was a daughter of the late Rebecca Honeycutt and Elam H. Pope. She was a retired
inspection employee of Draymore Manufacturing Co.
Her husband, Henry Burns Cashion, died in 1999. A
son, Billy Cashion, died in 1947.
Survivors include sons Rayvon and Gene Cashion,
both of Statesville; daughters Carolyn Floyd, Tillman, S.C., Kathy Burdette, Kernersville,
and Doris Sherrill, Mooresville; brothers Shirley Pope, Mooresville; sisters Lillian
Morris, Sara Long and Maggie Deal, all of Mooresville, and Rachel Jones, Kannapolis; 16
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

MOUNT ULLA Kenneth Eugene Dishman, 70,
Dishman Road, died Tuesday (Dec. 21, 1999) at his residence.
Born Sept. 6, 1929, in Iredell County, Mr. Dishman
was a son of the late Ansler Elzy and Lucy Nance Dishman. He was a retired production
operator of Celanese with 20 years of service and a retired farmer. He was a member of
Back Creek Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include wife Laura Goodson Dishman, whom
he married July 15, 1950; son Ronnie Dishman, Salisbury; daughters Renaye D. Jarrett,
Concord; Denise D. Ervin, Mooresville, and Patricia D. McDaniel, Cross Hill, S.C.; brother
Boyden Dishman, Mooresville; sisters Mrs. Davies (Annette) Alexander, and Faye Dishman,

YORKTOWN, Va. Lt. Col. Wilson Mack Erwin
Jr., 87, died Thursday (Dec. 23, 1999) at Riverside Hospital, Newport News.
A native of Badin, N.C., and former Salisbury
resident, Mr. Erwin had moved to Yorktown to live with his son.

Pearl Gantt
ALBEMARLE The funeral will be Sunday for
Pearlie Morton Earnhardt Gantt, 91, formerly of Charlotte and Sherrills Ford, who died
Wednesday (Dec. 22, 1999) at Britthaven of Piedmont Nursing Center.
Born March 3, 1908, in Montgomery County, Mrs.
Gantt was a daughter of the late Samuel A. and Polly Dennis Morton. She worked at
Wiscassett Mills, JC Penney and W.T. Raleigh Co.
She gave many hours of service to her former
church, Congregational Christian in Albemarle. She was a member of Hopewell United
Methodist Church in Sherrills Ford, where she was a member of the choir and the United
Methodist Women. She was a member of Sherrills Ford Home Demonstration Club.
Her first husband, Albert B. Earnhardt, died in
1932, and her second husband, Jesse D. Gantt, died in 1976.
Survivors include sons Joseph L. Earnhardt, Garden
City, S.C., Homer D. Earnhardt, Albemarle, and Crawford S. Earnhardt, West Palm Beach,
Fla.; sister Bertha M. Cody, Concord; stepdaughter Merle Godfrey, Kannapolis; stepsons
Ward Gantt, Largo, Fla., and Jimmie Gantt, Sherrills Ford; five grandchildren; 11
great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Born July 19, 1937, in Dennison, Ohio, Mrs.
Haddaway was a daughter of Daena Riggotti Cargnel, Lakeland, Fla., and the late Hugo
Victor Cargnel. She was a retired teacher.

Beach, Fla.; daughters Cindi Haddaway, Concord, and Laurissa Haddaway, Wichita, Kan.;
brother Sam Cargnel, Springfield, Mo.; and five grandchildren.

Peggy Ellenburg Pilot
The funeral will be Sunday for Peggy Ellenburg
Pilot, 72, who died Wednesday (Dec. 22, 1999) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, after a
brief illness.
Born Dec. 7, 1927, in Rowan County, Mrs. Pilot was
a daughter of the late Mabel Wellman and James Hoyle Ellenburg. Educated in Rowan County
schools, she was retired from the VA Medical Center. She was a member of First United
Methodist Church and was a Gold Star Mother with VFW Post No. 3006 Ladies Auxiliary.
A son, Stanley Pilot, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Susan Pilot Armour,
Salisbury; brother James Hoyle Jim Ellenburg Jr., Salisbury; and four
grandchildren.

97, formerly of Route 1, died Wednesday (Dec. 22, 1999) at Britthaven of Piedmont Nursing
Center.
Born May 1, 1902, in Montgomery County, Mrs.
Russell was a daughter of the late Jim and Martha Ann Andrews Ussery. A homemaker, she was
a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Her first husband, Jasper Luke Hatley, and her
second husband, Gillian Russell, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Jacine Hatley Little,
Albemarle; stepson Merril Russell, Salisbury; stepdaughters Evelyn Mills and Rebenia
Bergen, both of Salisbury, and Polly Talbert, Albemarle; eight grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

LEXINGTON Betty Louella Carrick Swicegood,
89, Tyro Road, died Thursday (Dec. 23, 1999) in Sunbridge Nursing Home.
Born May 6, 1910, in Davidson County, Mrs.
Swicegood was a daughter of the late Jesse Jason and Delia Gallimore Carrick. She was a
homemaker and a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Archie B. Swicegood, died March 14,
1968.
Survivors include son Kent D. Swicegood,
Lexington; daughter Maxine S. Barrett, Lexington; brother James Calvin Carrick, Pensacola,
Fla.; sister Frances Carrick Biesecker, Lexington; five grandchildren; and seven
