Callers compliment Christmas lights

SALISBURY POST

As a new resident in the area, Jane Clement called to publicly compliment her neighbors on Laurel Street, the Sedgefield Acres community, on their holiday spirit.

“I’m new to the area. And I’m very, very much fascinated by the participation in the Christmas holiday season in my neighborhood. All the homes are beautifully decorated, and I thought people ought to know,” she said.

We’re still taking your phone calls on the Post’s CHRISTMAS LIGHTS line — 797-4225. We’ve had close to 60 already.

Here are other recent suggestions:

  • Alice Ricks called to compliment the house at 416 E. Horah St.
  • Margie Shipp recommends people go see Steve and Elaine Reid’s lights at 265 St. Peter’s Church Road, just off U.S. 52, in Gold Hill.

“They have a pretty setting of lights, with a John Deere tractor decorated in the front yard and the house and the garage all decorated, with pretty wreaths on the doorway,” Shipp said.

  • An anonymous caller suggested that “anyone who wants to get into the Christmas spirit” ought to go see Parnell and Betty Burch’s decorations at 523 S. Boundary St.
  • Dennis Davidson called about the property he considers the most “tastefully done and well decorated.”

“I don’t know who they are,” he adds, but the property is located in a sharp curve on N.C. 150 West in between Woodbridge Run development and Sherrills Ford Road.

The owners have a “country- looking farmhouse with candles and bows and a barn with lights that are well done and a horsedrawn carriage in front with a spotlight that shows a silhouette back onto the house.” He adds that the owners decorate appropriately for each season.

  • Jim Barber is the latest person to call and recommend seeing the lights at Leonard Motor Co. at 2208 E. Ridge Road and the decorations at Kluttz Automotive at 1414 S. Ridge Ave.
  • Margie Basinger in Rockwell recommends the work of Cindy and Terry Jones, Margie’s daughter and son, who live at 1203 Lower Stone Church Road.

“It is truly beautiful,” Basinger said. “They even have some of the trees back on the woods lit.”

  • Frank Sides on Parkview Circle called to remind people to burn a blue light in memory of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
  • Another anonymous caller recommends the decorations at 6215 Bringle Ferry Road, between Beagle Club and Providence Church roads. “You can’t miss this house,” she said. “It is really pretty.”
  • Oliver Pruett would love for people to see his lights at 108 W. Harrison St. He has a white Christmas tree with red lights and about 3,000 lights all around his house. He keeps them on from 5 to 11:30 p.m. nightly.
  • And don’t forget the winners of the China Grove’s annual Christmas Decorating Contest. The Jay Little home, 312 Haney St., won the Children’s Delight Award, followed by: Jim Peeler, 117 Clinton St., best overall; Troyer Family Practice, 302 S. Main St., best overall business; Telia J. Edinger, 209 E. Church St., best creative use of lights; and James Mault, 109 Old Rockwell Road, best door.
