Treme gets raise

BY MARK WINEKA
SALISBURY POST

Salisbury City Manager David Treme received a 4 percent raise and 1 percent bonus Tuesday.

Treme’s base salary goes from $100,812 to $104,844.

His bonus accounts for an additional $1,008.

Salisbury City Council met for about a half-hour in closed session Tuesday evening to review Treme’s job performance. When they emerged, Mayor Susan Kluttz reported that Treme had received an excellent rating, leading to the raise and bonus.

Council annually reviews the city manager’s performance. During the recent election, when asked to give Treme a letter grade, all the incumbent council members gave Treme an “A.”

Treme spent part of Tuesday’s council meeting in a goals review session, that he called “A State of the City Presentation.”

The session included 10 general highlights from 1999, including the work of the mayor’s Neighborhood Improvement Task Force, the police department’s Strategic Plan for Crime Control and the city’s Vision 2020 Committee looking at a growth and development plan.

Treme also reviewed the city’s efforts in the Park Avenue neighborhood and the Flowers Bakery area of the downtown.

Other highlights included this year’s construction at the Salisbury Community Park and Athletic Complex, readjustment of extraterritorial zoning jurisdiction boundaries, continuing efforts to consolidate outlying utilities and continuing progress on diversity training for both city employees and the public at large.
