Patricia Ann Brewer

NORTH WILKESBORO - Patricia Ann Schindler Brewer, 71, of Oak Hill Drive, a former resident of Rowan County, died Saturday (Dec. 11, 1999) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born March 16, 1928, in King County, Washington, she was a daughter of the late Laurence J. and Lillian Trunde Schindler. She had retired as office manager at the Salisbury Children’s Clinic. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include husband William “Bill” Brewer; daughters Nancy Brewer York, Winston-Salem, Jody Brewer Williams, Wilkesboro, and Sherri Brewer Myers, Spencer; brother Donald Schindler, Port Angles, Wash.; sisters Joan Boden and Barbara White, both of Bremerton, Wash.; and four grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. memorial service, St. John’s Catholic Church, conducted by Father Frank Cintula.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuedsday, Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

 

Bernard A. Cesario

CHARLOTTE - Bernard A. Cesario, 77, a former resident of Salisbury, died Sunday (Dec. 12, 1999) at his home.

Born Jan. 8, 1922 in Iron Mountain, Mich., he was a son of the late John and Pauline Zambon Cesario. A retired lieutenant commander with the U. S. Navy Air Force, he had also retired from A&P after 32 years of service as a real estate director. He was a member of St.Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include wife of 55 years Madaline Watt Cesario; sons Douglas Cesario, Northport, Fla., Larry Cesario, Salisbury, and Greg Cesario, Charlotte; daughter Christine White, Wilmington; and six grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, St Vincent dePaul Catholic Church, conducted by the Rev. Willian Pharr. Burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel.

Eloise Brown Miller

Eloise Brown Miller, 85, died Sunday (Dec. 12, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for a number of years and seriously ill for one week.

Born Jan. 21, 1914, in Danville, Ga., she was a daughter of the late John Clyde and Frances Williams Brown. A homemaker, she was educated in the Granite Quarry and Richfield schools.

She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Elizabeth R. McCombs Circle. She was honored this year with a life membership in the Seminary Auxiliary.

Her husband, Harry Wilson Miller, died Jan. 9, 1986, and a son, James Robert Miller, died Nov. 5, 1986.

Survivors include daughters Mrs. Thomas (Jane) Monroe, Salem, Va., Mrs. Jesse (Annette) Morgan and Mrs. Sam (Peggy) Rothrock, both of Salisbury; brothers Homer Brown, Augusta, Ga., Richard Brown, Brunswick, Ga. and George Vaughn Brown, DeLand, Fla.; sisters Mrs. Homer (Harriette) Goff, DeLand, Fla., Mrs. Emmie Brown, Monticello, Ga., Mrs. Jane Bibson, Enterprise, Ala., Mrs. Frank (Cleo), Bishop, Big Bear City, Calif., Mrs. Royce (Linda) Mock and Mrs. Chuck (Gladys) Oyler, both of Brunswick, Ga. and Mrs. Luther (Fran) Warren, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Bethel Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Mark S. Reed, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Freitas, pastor of Maranatha Bible Church. Burial in church cemetery.

Visitation: 6:30-8 p.m. tonight, Summersett Funeral Chapel. At other times the family will be at the home.

Edward C. Cook

MOCKSVILLE — Edward C. Cook, McClamrock Road, died Sunday (Dec. 12, 1999) at his home.

Eaton Funeral Service is in charge.

 

Virginia Grubb Hovis

Virginia Grubb Hovis died Sunday (Dec. 12, 1999) at Spencer Health Care Center in Spencer.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Robert Lee Mann

Robert Lee Mann, 66, of 14 Irish Court, Blythewood, S.C., formerly of Kannapolis, died Saturday (Dec. 11, 1999) at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, S.C.

Born in Cabarrus County, Mr. Mann was the son of Dora Elizabeth Canup Mann, Kannapolis, and the late Homer Mann. He was a retired painter and a former member of the N.C. National Guard.

A former member of Landis Baptist Church, he currently attended Victory Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C., where he was a former Sunday school teacher, a youth leader and a bus driver for the youth of the church.

His first wife, Martha Jeanette Hodges Mann, died in 1976, and son David Alan Mann died in 1984.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Alice Cassell Mann; sons Dr. Terry Lee Mann, Wexford, Pa., Randy Dale Mann, Ronald Dean Mann and Donald Aaron Mann, all of Kannapolis; two brothers, Carl James Mann and Jack Franklin Mann, both of Kannapolis; two stepsons, Christopher Lee Shupe, Salisbury, and Rodney Shupe, Cooleemee; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by Dr. Terry Mann and the Rev. Richard Horn. Burial, Mount Moriah Lutheran Church cemetery, China Grove.

Visitation: 7 to 9 tonight, at the funeral home.

Memorials: Landis Baptist Church, 110 N. Kimmins St., Landis, N.C. 28088. At other times, the family will be at the home of Randy Mann, 2137 Windemere Drive, Kannapolis.

 

Alda Arlene Taylor

KANNAPOLIS — Alda Arlene Taylor, 62, 208 Sharpe Ave., died Sunday (Dec. 12, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Dec. 27, 1936, in Cabarrus County, Ms. Taylor was a daughter of Oren V. Taylor of Kannapolis and the late Ruth Morris Taylor. She was a member of Centerview Baptist Church.

In addition to her father, she is survived by son Steve Setzer, Kannapolis; brother David Taylor, Kannapolis; sister Melanie Taylor, Kannapolis; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. William Rash. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home of brother David Taylor at 1002 Wentworth Drive.

Memorials: Centerview Baptist Church, 415 Walter St., Kannapolis, N.C. 28083.

 

Gillie Odell Torrence

Gillie Odell Torrence, 79, of 708 Hawkinstown Road, died Friday (Dec. 10, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for several years.

Born July 11, 1920, in Mooresville, Mr. Torrence was the son of the late Sam and Daisy Johnson Torrence. Educated in the Cabarrus County schools, he had retired from the Rowan-Salisbury school system.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church and J.C. Price American Legion Post 107.

His wife, Eva Mae Torrence, died March 7, 1995, and a son, J.C. Torrence, died April 7, 1988.

Survivors include a son, Gillie Odell Torrence Jr., Salisbury; sisters Odessa Boyd, Roosevelt, Long Island, N.Y., and Mary McAdoo, Hempstead, Long Island, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, St. Luke Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Heggins, pastor. Burial, Salisbury National Cemetery, with military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, St. Luke Baptist Church. Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.
