Virginia Kiser Smith Cook, 76, 2140 S. Main St., died Saturday (Dec. 11, 1999) at
NorthEast Medical Center in Concord after five years of declining health and three weeks
of serious illness.
Born Feb. 14, 1923, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Cook
was a daughter of the late Parker Davis and Flonnie Honeycutt Kiser. She retired in 1983
from the cutting room of Cannon Mills Plant 1. A resident of the area since 1944, she
attended First Reformed Church in Landis.
Her first husband, Gus Lee Smith, died in August
1986.
Survivors include her husband, Jessie A. Cook;
daughters Linda Gibson, Phyllis Moore and Brenda Overcash, all of Kannapolis; sons Algie
Smith, Sanford, and Roger Smith, Kannapolis; sisters Temperance Montgomery, Bertha
Simpson, Blanche Taylor and Geraldine Walker, all of Burlington; brothers Sam Kiser and P.
D. Kiser, both of Burlington; step-daughter Karen Cook, Greensboro; stepson Brandon Cook,
Charlotte; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Monday, First Reformed Church,
Landis, conducted by the Rev. David Franks. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Ladys Funeral Home.
At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Phyllis Moore, 707 Carson
Court.

Hathcock, 64, 512 Elm St., died Friday (Dec. 10, 1999) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Born Dec. 28, 1934, in Iredell County, Mr.
Hathcock was a son of the late Ted Robert and Ruth Estelle Compton Hathcock. He worked for
Carmel Contractors in Charlotte as supervisor of house and commercial Construction.
He was preceded in death by son Mark Anthony
Hathcock.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Lee Burris
Hathcock; daughters Cindy Blalock and Barbara Villegas, both of Locust; sons Earl Hathcock
and Randy Hathcock, both of Norwood; brother Clyde Hathcock, Concord; sister Doris
(Houston) Tucker, Locust; and seven grandchildren.

Born July 2, 1917, in Stanly County, Miss
Huneycutt was a daughter of the late Pierson Enoch and Lovie Tucker Huneycutt. She was a
homemaker and attended Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by brothers Fred
Huneycutt and Philas Huneycutt, and sisters Annie Tucker and Ada Almond.
She is survived by sister Ethel Hartley, Oakboro;
and brother Rayvon Huneycutt, Oakboro.

Born Nov. 27, 1919, in Stanly County, Mr.
Huneycutt was a son of the late David Arey and Roxie Burgess Huneycutt. He owned a bus
company, for which he also drove.

Hattie Burnette, Locust, Myrtle Hartsell, Concord, Virginia Hartsell, Locust, and Dora

Dorothy Mims Dot Thornton, 76, 635
Statesville Blvd., died Friday (Dec. 10, 1999) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation,
Salisbury, after one year of declining health and a week of serious illness.
Born July 11, 1923, in East Spencer, Mrs. Thornton
was a daughter of the late Edwin Bronson and Annie Rahrer Mims. Educated in East Spencer
schools, she was a homemaker and a member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church, the
Adult Sunday school class and the United Methodist Women.
Her husband, Charles H. Thornton, died Feb. 2,
1995, and stepdaughter Colleene T. Short died July 1, 1992.
Survivors include stepdaughter Walter (Carolyn T.)
Baker, Spencer; brother George Buck Mims, Danville, Va.; sister Betty Lou
Sigmon, Danville, Va.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
