Winecoff School Road, died Monday (Dec. 6, 1999) at the home of her son, Donald R.
Barnhardt, 333 Stewart St., after a year of declining health.
Born Dec. 17, 1920, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Barnhardt was a daughter of the late Sam William and Kate Linker Cook. Retired from the
Cabarrus County schools, she had been cafeteria manager at Winecoff and R. Brown
McAllister schools.
Her husband, C. Hoke Barnhardt, died in 1992.
Survivors, in addition to her son, include sisters
Virginia Poster and Nell Hopkins, both of Concord; two grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.

Blanche Geneva Agner, 84, Salisbury, died Monday
(Dec. 6, 1999)at Autumn Care of Salisbury after a period of declining health.
Born Aug. 10, 1915, in Rowan County, Miss Agner
was a daughter of the late Walter and Ada Kesler Agner. Educated in the Rowan County
schools, she was a homemaker and a member of Union Lutheran Church.
Survivors include brothers Ned and Vonnie Agner,
both of Salisbury, and Homer Agner, Holden Beach; and sister Margie Hakos, Salisbury.

was a son of the late George and Louise Smith Brooks. Educated in the Pearson County
schools, he had retired from International Paper Trucking Co. after 24 years with the
company.

Mills, he later joined St. John Baptist Church.

Adams Street, died at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, on Monday (Dec. 6, 1999) from
cardiac arrest at her home on Thursday, Dec. 2.
Born Jan. 20, 1921, in Yadkin County, Mrs. Dixon
was a daughter of the late James Monroe and Lora Royal Mackie Cranfill. She was owner and
operator of Dixons Greenhouses and a member of Harmony Grove Friends Meeting.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, T.Ford

Sutton Road, died Monday (Dec. 6, 1999) at his home after several years of declining
health and five months of serious illness.
Born April 23, 1921, in Stanly County, Mr. Efird
was a son of the late Oscar C. and Fannie McIntyre Efird. He received a Purple Heart for
his service in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Owner of Efirds Upholstery for 50 years, he
was a member of American Legion 0185, VFW 9089 and Mount Moriah Lutheran Church, where he
was a former council member and president of his Sunday school class.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rachel
Garver Efird; sons Elbert and Roy Efird, both of China Grove, and Henry Efird,
Mooresville; daughters Mrs. John (Mary)Lambert, Mrs. Larry (Lois) Page, Mrs. Steve (Janet)

ALBEMARLE Roy Lee Furr, 79, 19658 Lakeside
Drive, died Monday (Dec. 6, 1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 22, 1920, in Stanly County, Mr. Furr was
a son of the late Albert and Sarah Eudy Furr. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in the
Pacific during World War II. He had worked as a finisher with Collins &Aikman.
Survivors include wife Lucille Myrtle Hall Furr;
son Dillon Furr, Albemarle; stepson Tyrone Hall, Albemarle; brothers Clayton and Johnny

Charles Timothy Lentz, 78, 725 Highland Ave., who died Sunday (Dec. 5, 1999) at NorthEast
Medical Center, Concord, after three years of illness.
Born Feb. 2, 1921, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Lentz
was a son of the late John W. Lentz and the late Floda Kiles Lentz Minton. Educated in the
Cabarrus County schools, he had retired as a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal
Service in 1986.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1941 to 1947. He
was a member of Midway UnitedMethodist Church and the VFW.
He was preceded in death by his first wife,
Virginia Ruth Lentz, and his second wife, Frances Gail Lentz.
Survivors include daughters Sharon Lentz,
Charlotte, and Sheila Lawrence, Key West, Fla.; brothers Frank Lentz, California, and

Ethel Pemberton Poole, 81, Salisbury, died Monday
(Dec. 6, 1999)at Rowan Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born May 13, 1918, in Rowan County, Mrs. Poole was
a daughter of the late W.T. and Nannie Smiley Pemberton. Educated in the Rowan County
schools, she was a graduate of Spencer High School.
Retired from Cannon Mills, she had earlier been
employed by Fiber Industries, now KoSa. She was a Methodist.
Her husband, Clarence M. Pemberton, preceded her
in death.
Survivors include son Michael E.Bilyeu, Salisbury;
stepdaughter Eleanor Morgan,Rockwell; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

daughter of Solomon and Lillie Mae Powell Mutz, Granite Quarry. A graduate of East Rowan
High School, she last worked for General Electric and the Rowan County Rehabitational
Workshop. She attended White Rock AME Zion Church, Granite Quarry.

Johnson Kelly Boler, 75, 320 S. Shaver St., who died Saturday (Dec. 4, 1999) at Rowan
Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health several years and seriously ill
two weeks.
Born April 30, 1924, in Blacksburg, S.C., Mrs.
Boler was a daughter of Carl Johnson of Salisbury and the late Ellen Thompson Johnson.
She was educated in the schools of Blacksburg,
S.C., and Salisbury and was a member of the United House of Prayer for All People and its
Queen Board.
Her husband, George Dump Boler, died
in December 1978. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Ann Kelly; and a
son, Billy Ray Kelly.
Survivors include sons Clemson Kelly Jr., New
Haven, Conn., and Farris Kelly, Salisbury; daughters Ethel K. Bruce, New Haven, Conn.,
Mary Ellen Blassingame, Boston, Choyce Cole, Washington, D.C., and Josephine Heggins,
