Thelma Adams Belk, 76, 402 Dingler St., died Saturday (Dec. 4, 1999) at Lake Norman
Medical Center.
Born Dec. 8, 1922, in Lancaster, S.C., she was a
daughter of the late Annie Mae Whitley and Ben P. Adams. She was a secretary retired from
the Dr. Pepper Company.
Her son, Lacy Belk, died in 1988.
Survivors include son Gary Belk, Concord; daughter
Susan Humphrey, Mooresville; and five grandchildren.

Corriher, 75, 150 Beaver Road, died Friday (Dec. 3, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center,
Concord.
Born Feb. 17, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Corriher
was a daughter of the late Felishia Rogers Wilson and Lester S. Wilson. Mrs. Corriher
attended Landis High School and was retired from Troutman Shirt Factory, Mooresville. She
was a member if Mt. Zion United Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Joel Corriher;
daughters Kathleen Kirk and Emogene Safrit, China Grove; brothers Perry and Ned Wilson,
Greensboro, Joe Wilson, Kannapolis, Jack Wilson, Mt. Airy, Roger Wilson, Rockwell, and
John Wilson; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

MOCKSVILLE May Bean Kinser, formerly of
Edgewood Circle, died Friday (Dec. 3, 1999) at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Mocksville.
Born May 12, 1907, in Davie County, Mrs. Kinser
was a daughter of the late Mary Bost Bean and Julius C. Bean. A homemaker, she was a
member of Cooleemee Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Hurbert Alvin Kinser, preceded her in
death.
Survivors include sons Ronald Kinser, Rose Hill
and Thomas Kinser, Mocksville; daughters Cathryn K. Taylor, Mocksville and Mary Lou K.

Pauline Polly Lomax Elium, 81, of
Salisbury, died Saturday (Dec. 4, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 23, 1918, Mrs. Elium was a daughter of
the late Nona Belle Gobble Lomax and Walter Carr Lomax. Educated in Rowan County schools,
she retired from Fiber Industries in 1978. She also worked for Carolina Maid and N.C.
Finishing Company. Mrs. Elium was a member of Dunns Mount Baptist Church, where she
taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of Dunns Mount Key Club
andCampers on Mission, and she visited shut-ins for many years.
Survivors include her husband, William Preston
Elium, whom she married June 22, 1938; son Donald Preston Elium, Walnut Creek, Calif.;
daughter Kay Elium Walker, Raleigh; sister Frances Easkins, Spencer; four grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS Harold David Gheen, 70, 310
Gaddy St., died Saturday (Dec. 4, 1999) at his home following six weeks of serious
illness.
Born, Nov. 25, 1929, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Gheen
was the son of the late Eashmon Worth Gheen and Bettie Moore Gheen. He owned and operated
Harolds Used Cars and had previously worked at Central Distributing in Kannapolis.
Mr. Gheen was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Becky Barnhardt Gheen; daughter Tammy Gheen Draper; brother Claude W. Gheen,

Knight, 75, Johnston Road, died Friday (Dec. 3, 1999) at Brian Center Health &
Retirement, Mooresville.
Born June 4, 1924, in Mecklenburg County, Mr.
Lewis was the son of the late Charles and Maude Harper Knight. He was a retired weaver for
Spring Mills and a U.S. Army veteran. He attended First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles
Knight.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia McCoy Knight,
whom he married on Nov. 4, 1950; sons Darrell Wayne Helms, Charlotte, Arnold Lewis Knight,
Charles Knight Hamilton of the home, and Johnny Edward Knight, Mt. Holly; daughters
Priscilla A. Robbins, Landis, and Peggy J.Edwards, Moorseville; brother Lloyd Knight,
Charlotte; sisters Gertrude Johnston, Iron Station, and Catherine Louise Knight, Rockwell;

was the son of the late Clyde Preston Purvis and Mozell Creswell Purvis. He worked for
Dodson Brothers Exterminating Company in Charlotte. Mr. Purvis was a member of Friendship
Freewill Baptist Church and a retired U.S. Army National Guardsman after 23 years of
service.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Haigler Purvis;
son Michael L. Purvis, II, Salisbury; daughter Denise Purvis, Salisbury; stepson David

KANNAPOLIS Janice Virginia Locker Stang,
75, 6423 Miller Road, died Friday (Dec. 3, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center following a
brief illness.
Born Aug. 28, 1924, Mrs. Stang was the daughter of
the late Vernon and Pauline Alexander Locker. She retired in 1988 from Textron Corp. after
40 years of employment. She was a member of Bluelick United Methodist Church in Lima,
Ohio, and attended Golden Gate United Methodist Church in Golden Gate, Fla. Mrs. Stang was
also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagle Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary in Lima,
Ohio. She is formerly of Naples, Fla.
She was preceded in death by brother Robert Locker
and sister Rosemary Joseph. Both were from Naples, Fla.
Survivors include son Ricky L. Stang, Towson, Md.;
daughters Janice M. Davis, Kannapolis, Linda Casson, Louisburg, Kan.; sisters Darline
Fair, Delphos, Ohio, and Carolyn Roby, Atlanta; five grandchildren and six
great-grandchildren.

of declining health.

was the son of the late Martha Green and Landon Webb. He was a graduate of Thomasville
Orphanage High School. Mr. Lewis retired from Southern Railway and was a member of Landis
Baptist Church. He enjoyed rock hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Rary Webb; son
Donald R. Webb, China Grove; daughters Dolan Webb Huffman and Joyce Webb Suttle, both of
Salisbury.
