Meriam Mode Agner

KANNAPOLIS —Meriam Mode Agner, 73, formerly of 407 S. Ridge Ave., Kannapolis, died Thursday (Dec. 2, 1999) at Five Oaks Nursing Center, Concord, after three weeks of declining health.

Born Aug. 7, 1926, in Cleveland County, Mrs. Agner was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Mattie Cannon Mode. A 1945 graduate of Winecoff High School, she was employed with Cannon Mills, Plant 1, set department, for 18 years before her retirement in 1985. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Concord.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Edward “Bo” Agner.

Survivors include daughters Tonda A. Moss, Kannapolis, and Martha A. Osborne, Greensboro; sisters Maxine M. Hooks, Navarre, Fla., Lucille M. Martin, Greensboro, and Ila Champion, Flagler Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Sunday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Keith Bingham. Burial at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of a daughter, Tonda A. Moss, 407 S. Ridge Ave.

Clora Furr Almond

CONCORD — Clora Catherine Furr Almond, 91, 430 Brookwood Ave. N.E., died Thursday (Dec. 2, 1999)at Concord Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Aug. 19, 1908, in Stanly County, Mrs. Almond was a daughter of the late Martha Delana Furr and Adam Lovely Furr. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Luther Wilson Almond, died July 12, 1977. A stepdaughter, Truley Almond Daugherty, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include stepson Jerry P. Almond, Oakboro; stepdaughter Rachel Almond Caudle, Coconut Creek, Fla.; sisters Elmira Burris, Albemarle, Martha Coppaway, Charlotte, and Tina Tucker, Oakboro;; brother Grover Furr, Albemarle; four step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church, Stanfield, conducted by Elder Richard Almond. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home of a niece, Louise Harwood, 28960 Pole Running Road, Mount Pleasant.

 

Max Norman Bradley

RUTHERFORDTON — Max Norman Bradley, 64, 261 Long St., died Friday (Dec. 1, 1999) at his residence.

He was the brother of Grady Bradley, Salisbury.

Services:2 p.m. Sunday, Crowe’s Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Wayne Toney. Burial, Rutherfordton City Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Crowe’s Funeral Home.

 

Duncan G. Calder III

CONCORD — Duncan Graham Calder III, 57, Middletown, N.Y., formerly of Concord, died Thursday (Dec. 2, 1999), Horton Medical Center in Middletown.

Born Feb. 16, 1942, in Concord, Mr. Calder was a son of the late Duncan Graham Calder Jr. and the late Mary Frances Barnhardt Calder Ridenhour. He was an attorney.

Survivors include sister Marnitte Calder, Atlanta, and brother Sterling Calder, Santa Rosa, Calif.

Services:Graveside, 2 p.m. Sunday, Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Todd Hobbie.

CHINA GROVE — Felisha Louise Wilson Corriher, 75, 150 Beaver Road, died Friday (Dec. 3, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, is in charge.

 

Pauline Elium

Pauline Elium, Salisbury, died Saturday (Dec. 4, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell, is in charge.

 

James Willie Johnson

NORWOOD — The Rev. James Willie Johnson, 85, 9027 Plank Road, died Thursday (Dec 2, 1999) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

A Baptist minister, he worked as a card tender at Wiscassett Mill, Albemarle.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Aquadale Baptist Church, Norwood, conducted by the Rev. Robert Ellis and the Rev. Don Thompson. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Memorials: Aquadale Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 32871 Church St., Norwood, N.C. 28128.

 

Harvey ‘Bud’ Kluttz Jr.

Harvey “Bud”Adolphus Alexander Kluttz Jr., 85, Salisbury, died Thursday (Dec. 2, 1999)at Rowan Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health and one month of serious illness.

Born Sept. 20, 1914, in Rowan County, Mr. Kluttz was a son of the late Mary (Shinn)Kluttz and Harvey Adolphus Alexander Kluttz. He was educated in the Rowan County schools.

Retired from Cannon Mills, Plant 8, since 1977, he was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

A son, James Harvey Kluttz, died in 1993, and a daughter, Daisy Mae Murph, died in 1959.

Survivors include wife Lucy Waller Kluttz, whom he married July 10, 1960; son Lloyd Kluttz, Jacksonville, Fla.; daughters Kathleen Belvins and Diane Sherman, both of Rockwell; half brothers Arie and Charlie Swinson, both of Rockwell; half sisters Ethel Sides and Maggie Swinson, both of Rockwell; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Services:4 p.m. Sunday, Powles Funeral Home Chapel, Rockwell, conducted by the Rev. Doug Hefner, pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum, Salisbury.

Visitation:6-8 tonight, Powles Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the residence.

 

Minnie Lyman

ROCKWELL —Minnie Lyman, 71, Rockwell, died Saturday (Dec. 4, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, Landis, is in charge.

 

Lexie M. Marlow

Lexie Mae Marlow, 97, formerly of the Bostian Heights community, died Friday (Dec. 3, 1999) at the Brian Center in Salisbury after eight years of declining health and six months of serious illness.

Born Aug. 9, 1902, in Wilkes County, Mrs. Marlow was a daughter of the late George and Venie Anderson Marlow. She had retired from the spinning room of Cannon Mills, Plant 1, Kannapolis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.E. Marlow.

Survivors include son Gray Marlow, Kannapolis; daughters Ruth Greene, Kannapolis, and Evelyn Fulham, Salisbury; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services:2 p.m. Sunday, Lady’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Bishop Michael Craddock . Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Lady’s Funeral Home.
