The funeral will be Saturday for Otis Bill Bailey, 72, 200 E. 31st St.,
who died Wednesday (Dec. 1, 1999) at his home after several years of declining health.
Born May 28, 1927, in Rowan County, Mr. Bailey was
a son of the late Vance and Elouise McNeely Bailey. Educated in the Rowan County schools,
he had retired from Fieldcrest Cannon and FCX, Salisbury.
He was a member of Sills Creek AMEZion Church and
its lay council. He was also a member of the Booster Club.
Survivors include wife Frances Cornelius Bailey; a
nephew reared in the home, Charles Pinkston, Kannapolis; a niece reared in the home, Kay
Graham, Salisbury; brother Samuel Lee Bailey, Salisbury; sister Annie Louise Sloan,
Lexington; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Sills Creek AMEZion
Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Michael McCray. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

EAST SPENCER John Wesley Jay
Chambers, 69, 101 N. Long St., died Wednesday (Dec. 1, 1999) at his home after two months
of serious illness.
Born April 14, 1930, in Granite Quarry, Mr.
Chambers was a son of the late Willie Boyd and Frances Smith Chambers. He was a graduate
of Dunbar High School. Retired, he had been employed by Owens Illinois Co., North Rowan
Elementary School and Spencer Office, all in Spencer.
He was a former member of Antioch Baptist Church,
Granite Quarry and attended New Hope AMEZion Church. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a
member of J.C. Price American Legion Post 107, Salisbury.
Survivors include wife Geraldine Trueblood
Chambers; son John W. Chambers Jr., Salisbury; daughters Rita Y. Hayes, Manassas, Va., and
Patricia C. Witherspoon and Emily Chambers, both of East Spencer; brothers Francis
Chambers, Chicago, and Willie B. Chambers, Williamsburg, Va.; sisters Betty Henderson and
Sadie Myles, both of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Friday for
Ellen Cole Cochran, 92, 2686 Sides Road, who died Tuesday (Nov. 30, 1999) at Rowan
Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born May 8, 1907, in Fannin County, Ga., Mrs.
Cochran was a daughter of the late James Polk and GeorgeAnn Cole. She had worked at Cannon
Mills Co., Plant 1, No. 4 spooler room, for 25 years.
Her husband, James E. Cochran, died in 1962. She
was also preceded in death by sons Lloyd Cochran and Arlen Cochran, and by a grandson.
Survivors include son Walter Reid Cochran,
Kannapolis; daughters Lillie Ross and Helen Cochran, both of Kannapolis; 19 grandchildren;
31 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Near the Cross Church,
conducted by the Rev. Raymond Davis. Burial, Sunset Cemetery.
Visitation: The body has been taken to the home,
where the family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight.

(Dec. 2, 1999) at his home after a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 17, 1921, in Swift County, Minn., Mr.
Joyce was a son of the late George and Anita Reimers Ellis. Educated in the Miland, Minn.,
schools, he had retired from the U.S. Postal Service.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the Pacific
during World War II. He was a member of Lebanon Lutheran Church, Cleveland.
Survivors include wife Josephine Marie Wintermote
Joyce, whom he married April 13, 1946; son David Joyce, Salisbury; daughters Darline Hoyt,
Kalispell, Mont., Patricia Ditton, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Deborah Medalen, Tacoma,
Wash.; brothers Lamar Joyce, Anoka, Minn., Kenneth Joyce, Circle Pines, Minn., and Ronald
Joyce, Big Lake, Minn.; sisters Luella Flitfet, Minneapolis, Minn., Leatrice Melde,
Glenwood, Minn., Edith Sadergaski, Appleton, Minn., and Bernice Lawson, Danvers, Minn.;
nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Callie Herrin Long, 85, Spencer, who died Wednesday (Dec. 1, 1999) at Autumn Care of
Salisbury after a period of declining health.
Born March 11, 1914, in Little Rock, Ark., Mrs.
Long was a daughter of the late Titus Luther and Sarah Mason Herrin. She was educated in
the Stanly and Cabarrus county schools.
Retired fromCarolina Maid, she had earlier worked
at Cannon Mills, Kannapolis, and N.C. Finishing Co. She was a member of Trading Ford
Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class.
Her husband, Gideon Henry Long, died Nov. 2, 1973.
Survivors include daughters Carolyn L. McCoy,
Belmont, Ruth Goodman, Salisbury, and Billie Anne Perrell, Woodleaf; nine grandchildren;
and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Trading Ford Baptist
Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Motley, pastor, and the Rev. Brenda Newman. Burial,
family plot in church cemetery.

Margaret Anna Liles Reisner, of Trinity Oaks
Retirement Center, formerly of Rockwell, died Thursday (Dec. 2, 1999).
Born in Morven, Mrs. Reisner was a daughter of the
late Junius S. and Annie Bowman Liles. A graduate of Catawba College, she had retired
after 35 years as a teacher in the Rowan County schools.
She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran
Church and the Eva Peeler Sunday School Class. She served as pianist for her Sunday school
class and for the Salisbury Lutheran Home for many years.
Her husband, Charles Franklin Reisner Jr., died
Feb. 23, 1979.
Survivors include daughter Margaret White,
Arlington, Texas; sister Edith Williams, Raleigh; two grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
