Nell P. Woodson

OCEAN ISLE BEACH — Nell P. Woodson, 79, Duneside Drive, died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1999) at Brunswick Community Hospital.

Born June 10, 1920, in Albemarle, Mr. Woodson was a daughter of the late Baxter and Belzora Ingold Poplin. A member of Shallotte Presbyterian Church, she was a service representative for Southern Bell Telephone.

Survivors include husband Thomas Woodson; son Thomas Woodson Jr., Ocean Isle Beach; daughter Lisa W. Brown, Ocean Isle Beach; and two grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. George Lashley and the Rev. Dan Norman.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Brunswick Funeral Service and Crematory, Shallotte.

Memorials: Shallotte Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 3256, Shallotte, N.C. 28459.

 

Harold B. Poole Sr.

Harold B. Poole, 85, Salisbury, died Tuesday (Aug. 31, 1999) at Autumn Care of Salisbury.

Theresa Wilhelm Moss

KANNAPOLIS — Theresa Lee Wilhelm Moss, 83, formerly of 104 Hemlock Ave., died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after four years of declining health and six months of serious illness.

Cleo Dillard Martin

KANNAPOLIS — Cleo Bernice Dillard Martin, 81, a resident of Deal Care Inn, Mooresville, and a former resident of 1303 W. C St., died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord. She had been in declining health for six years and seriously ill for two months.

Bobby Ray ‘B.B.’ Franklin

KANNAPOLIS — The funeral will be Wednesday for Bobby Ray “B.B.” Franklin, 57, 1318 Haywood Ave., who died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a year of declining health and a week of serious illness.

Born May 13, 1942, in Comer, Ga., Mr. Franklin was a son of the late Clinton D. and Ula Mae Hughes Franklin. A Baptist, he worked for Fieldcrest Cannon electrical shop for 37 years.

Survivors include wife Jeannette Hallman Franklin; daughters Rhonda F. Puckett, Salisbury, and Donna E. Orbison, Rockwell; son Derrick R. Franklin, Concord; sisters Elease Page and Gladys Wyatt, both of Kannapolis, Mildred Barnette, Landis, Betty Shinn, China Grove, and Ida Mae Stancil, Concord; brother Junior Franklin, Kannapolis; and seven grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. James Pauley, pastor, Faith Freewill Baptist Church. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Buford Eugene Neal, 47, 200 Grant St., Apartment 36, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Iva Whittenton

Iva Neighbors Smith Whittenton, 89, Dunn, mother of Thomas Ray Smith, Salisbury, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at her home after an extended illness.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, First Baptist Church, Dunn, conducted by Dr. Karl Minor. Burial, Greenwood Cemetery, Dunn.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Skinner Funeral Home, Dunn.

Kathleen Rosser

MIDLAND — Kathleen Black Flowe Rosser, 80, 1125 Alvin Hough Road, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born Feb. 22, 1919, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Rosser was a daughter of the late Emmett Clint Black and Annie Black Pope Vanderburg. A homemaker, she was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and Midland Chapter 260, Order of the Eastern Star.

Her husbands, Paul Yates Flowe and Harland Atkins Rosser, preceded her in death.

Survivors include son Mitchell Yates Flowe, Oakboro; daughter Mrs. Kenneth B. (Paula Flowe) Allen, Cary; brothers C.M. Black, Gold Hill, and Joe B. Black, Mint Hill; sisters Avous Black Liles, Salisbury, Mrs. J.C. (Smaro Black) Sossoman, Morganton, and Mrs. A.J. (Joyce Black) Tucker and Mary Ann Black Black, both of Midland; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Bethel United Methodist Church, Midland, conducted by the Rev. Rex Gibbs and the Rev. Jim Weekley. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Alvin Hough Road.

MOCKSVILLE — Tallie Lanier Peoples, 89, Fred Lanier Road, died Monday (Aug. 30, 199) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

CHINA GROVE — James Dean Osborne, 65, Orange, Calif., formerly of China Grove, died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1999) in California.

Wanda Talbert Collins

ALBEMARLE — Wanda Talbert Collins, 48, 503 Lisk St., died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 23, 1951, in Stanly County, Mrs. Collins was a daughter of James Douglas and Esther Almond Talbert of Albemarle. Employed by Homes by Oakwood, she was a member of Kendall’s Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include husband David Laverne Collins; daughters Tracy Collins, of the home, and Melody Page, Stanfield; brother Gary Douglas Talbert, Albemarle; sister Brenda Mauney, Salisbury; and one granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Kendall’s Baptist Church, New London, conducted by the Rev. Sonny Reeves. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home.

 

Lydia Grace Baker, infant

Lydia Grace Baker, infant daughter of Larry and Julia Hollandsworth Baker of 140 Spicewood Lane, formerly of Raleigh, died at her home at birth Monday (Aug. 30, 1999).

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include brother Landon Baker, of the home; sisters Hannah, Meredith and Abigail Baker, all of the home; maternal grandparents Kenneth and Jean Hollandsworth, Raleigh; and paternal grandfather Boyce Baker, Benson.

Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Wednesday, Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Raleigh, conducted by the Rev. Jerry P. Wilkes, pastor, Neel Road Baptist Church of Salisbury.

Visitation: None.
