Gelene Hutchins Ashley

KANNAPOLIS — Faye Gelene Hutchins Ashley, 64, 1819 Colony Drive, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at her home.

Whitley’s Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Howard Lee Crenshaw

NEW LONDON — John Howard Lee Crenshaw, 63, 44097 Ski Pond Road, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after several months of declining health.

Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, is in charge.

 

William Kenneth Mills

MOORESVILLE — William Kenneth Mills, 81, Melody Lane, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Born March 5, 1918, in Iredell County, Mr. Mills was a son of the late William Pickney and Emma Sloop Mills. A carpenter and a farmer, he was a member of Berea Baptist Church.

Survivors include wife Martha Blackwelder Mills, whom he married Nov. 6, 1948; sons William Davis Mills, Robins Air Force Base, Ga., and Jeffery Dale Mills, Mooresville; brother Hebron Mills, Davidson; sisters Dora Marlowe and Laurene McAllister, both of Mooresville, and Margie Isenhour, Concord; and one granddaughter.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Berea Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dan L. Freeman. Burial with military rites, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Cavin Funeral Home.

Memorials: Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C. 28707-3000.

 

James David Farrington

James David Farrington, 49, Salisbury, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at his parents’ home after a year of declining health and six months of serious illness.

Born April 11, 1950, in Rowan County, Mr. Farrington was a son of Cecil Murray and Ruby Holshouser Farrington of Salisbury. He was a 1968 graduate of East Rowan High School and a 1972 graduate of Appalachian State University. He owned and operated Village Pantry.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Elizabeth Raney Farrington, whom he married Aug. 11, 1991; son David Bradford Farrington, Matthews; daughter Cynthia Hayley Farrington, Matthews; brother Dr. Cecil Farrington Jr., Salisbury; and sister Mrs. Freddy (Clarice F.) Einstein, Advance.

Services: Service of remembrance, 11 a.m. Tuesday, Christiana Lutheran Church, Granite Quarry, conducted by the Rev. Carl M. Haynes. Private burial will be held in the church cemetery at a later date.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of his parents.

Clarence Ray Burton Jr.

Clarence Ray Burton Jr., 53, 220 Mitchell Ave., died Monday (Aug. 23, 1999) at his home.

Viola Hargrave Dixon

The funeral will be Thursday for Viola Elaine Hargrave Dixon, 417 Willow Road, who died Friday (Aug. 20, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after three years of declining health.

Services: 4 p.m. Thursday, Trinity Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. George Hunter. Burial, 11 a.m., Friday, U.S. National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home.

 

Paul William Hendrix

MOCKSVILLE — Paul William Hendrix, 80, North Main Street, died Monday (Aug. 23, 1999) at his home.

MOCKSVILLE — Nell Rash Day, 92, died Sunday at Lexington Health Care.

Pauline Rymer Baker

KANNAPOLIS — Pauline Rymer Baker, 75, 2104 Autumn Lane, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at her home.

Born Aug. 10, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Baker was a daughter of the late A.M. and Lillie Beaver Rymer. A graduate of Landis High School, she had retired from Cannon Mills, No. 7 weave room. She was a member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ.

Survivors include daughter Margaret Dillard, Monroe, Ga.; brother John Clifford Rymer, China Grove; and sisters Alice Rymer Bates, Cora Weddington and Eva Mae Deal, all of China Grove.

Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Northcrest Chapel Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. William Campbell. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 1:30-3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Rev. L.B. Brown

The Rev. L.B. Brown, 81, Bremen, Ga., died Saturday (Aug. 21, 1999) at Tanner Medical Center, Carrollton, Ga.

Local survivors include a son, the Rev. L.E. Brown, Salisbury; daughters Winnell B. Short and Lorna Brown-Ray, both of Spencer, and Ernestine B. Ingram, Salisbury; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Antioch Baptist Church, Bremen, Ga., conducted by the Rev. Tommy Harris and his son, the Rev. L.E. Brown. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8 tonight, Walker Funeral Home, Carrollton, Ga.

KANNAPOLIS — Laura Smith Dartnell, 83, formerly of Nathan Avenue, died Sunday (Aug. 22, 1999) at Transitional Health Services.
