CLEVELAND, Ohio LaTasha Pharr of the Rowan Express Track Club broke a national AAU
age-group record earlier this week when she ran 13.88 in the 100 meter hurdles in the
Nationals at Baldwin Wallace College.Pharr
is a junior at North Rowan High.
Earlier in the Nationals, Pharr took second in the
long jump and third in the triple jump.
Pharr, running her fastest time of the year,
finished second in the 100 hurdles by an eyelash to Ashlee Williams (13.87), but still
broke the existing standard of 13.96 established by Char Foster of Clearwater, Fla., in
1996.
Williams, by the way, is now a member of the U.S.
Junior National team and won the Pan Am championship for Juniors earlier this summer.
Other competitors from the Rowan Express included
Ibn Ali, who placed 14th in the long jump for Sub-Bantom boys with a leap of 11 feet, 7
3/4 inches, and Omar Jackson, who finished 22nd among 15- and 16-year-olds in the shot put
with a throw of 38 feet, 2 1/4 inches.
