Wednesday for Mamie Lee Wilkerson Cooke, 82, who died Saturday (July 31, 1999) at Genesis
ElderCare.
Born Aug. 18, 1916 in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Cooke
was a daughter of the late Pearl Weathers and Luther Wilkerson. Educated in the Rowan
County schools, she had retired as a cook with the Rowan County schools. She was a member
of First Congregational Church, Mount Pleasant.
Her husband, William Alphonso Cooke, died May 8,
1979.
Survivors include daughter Joyce Holmes,
Salisbury; brother Samuel Sherrill, Landis; and one grandchild.
Services: Noon Wednesday at Rowan Funeral Service.
Burial in the Salisbury National Cemetery.

Alene Kimball Evans
The funeral will be Wednesday for Alene Kimball
Evans, 86, who died Sunday (Aug. 1, 1999) at Genesis ElderCare after a year of declining
health.
Born Feb. 12, 1913, in Rowan County, Mrs. Evans
was a daughter of the lae Ida Meatta Misenheimer and William Walter Kimball. A homemaker,
she was educated in the Rowan County schools. She was a member of Main Street United
Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the Ladies Sunday Class and the Rufty-Holmes
Hat Band.
Her first husband, Fred William Watson, and her
second husband, Gregg Robert Evans, preceded her in deth.
Survivors include stepsons Harvey A. Evans,
Valdese, Aldolph Al Evans, Orlando, Fla., Gregg Robert Evans Jr.,
Woodleaf, and Dennis W. Evans, Harrison, Ark.; daughters Daryce Evans Rimmer and Judy
Watson Earnhardt, both of Salisbury; stepdaughters, Leretta Evans Naile, Springfield, Mo.,
Jo Ann Evans Safley, Salisbury, Delores Evans Waggoner, Mount Ulla, Helen Evans Meares,
Nokesville, Va., and Julia Evans Barrette, Kennesaw, Ga.; 28 grandchildren; and 15
great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev.
Willliam R. Ragsdale, Main Street United Methodist Church. Burial in Rowan Memorial Park.

Bryan Patrick DeHart
Bryan Patrick DeHart, 17, of 110 Courtney Lane,
died Sunday (Aug. 1, 1999) in a drowning accident.
Born Oct. 1, 1981, in Beckley, W.Va., he was the
son of Johnny Keen and Sherry and Robert Clark, all of Salisbury.
Mr. DeHart attended West Rowan High School and
worked for Johnnys Muffler Shop.
In addition to his parents, survivors include
brothers Joshua and Johnny Lee DeHart, both of Salisbury, and Robert Clark II, Kannapolis;
paternal grandmother Sue Christian, and step-grandfather, Eddie Christian, both of
Narrows, Va; step-grandmother Myrtle Keen, Tennessee; maternal grandparents Brady and
Geraldine Smith, Dover, Tenn.; paternal grandparents Bernard and Kay DeHart, Fayetteville,
W.Va.; and step-grandparents, James Clark and Elizabeth Langston, Philadelphia.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Garwood Church of
God, Garwood, W.Va., conducted by the Rev. Charles Bullins. Burial, Milam Cemetery.
Visitation: 6-9 tonight, Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home,

Cecil Carter
KANNAPOLIS The funeral will be Wednesday for
William Cecil Carter, 81, 2100 Temple St., who died Monday (Aug. 2, 1999) at NorthEast
Medical Center, Concord.
Born June 18, 1918, in Oglethorpe, Ga., Mr. Carter
was a son of the late Earl and Lillie Clark Carter. He had retired several years ago from
Cannon Mills, Plant 1, Kannapolis, where he worked in the No. 1 weave room. He attended
Jackson Park Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include wife Fannie Fowler Carter; and
sister Mary Willie Booth, Comer, Ga.

Catherine Harwell
CONCORD The funeral will be Wednesday for
Catherine Bradford Harwell, 91, 3535 Odell School Road, who died Sunday (Aug. 1, 1999) at
Transitional Health Services of Kannapolis.
Born Jan. 31, 1908, in Cabarrus County, Mrs.
Harwell was a daughter of the late John F. and Annie Johnson Bradford. She was a homemaker
and a member of Gilwood Presbyterian Church, where in earlier years, she had been active
in circle work.
Her husband, Edgar William Harwell, died Jan. 22,
1993.
Survivors include sons William
Bill Harwell, Charlotte, and Robert Bob
Harwell, Concord; brother Ralph Bradford, Concord; four grandchildren; five
great-grandchildren.

CORDOVA John Thelmer Yow, 75, 110 N. School
St., died Monday (Aug. 2, 1999) in Richmond Memorial Hospital, Rockingham.
Born Oct. 13, 1923, in Stanly County, Mr. Yow was
a son of the late John Adam and Arabelle Whitley Yow. He was educated in the Oakboro
schools. He had retired as a bridge carpenter with Norfolk-Southern Railway.
His wife, Alice Evelyn Cann Yow, preceded him in
death.
Survivors include sister Geneva Hartsell, Oakboro.
