CHARLOTTE — Four games featuring teams from the area were affected by the foul weather Friday night.

All of the games were pushed back to Monday.

Resuming at 7 p.m. are A.L. Brown at West Charlotte, West Rowan at Cox Mill and Carson at Hickory Ridge. The East Rowan at Central Cabarrus game gets back under way at 6:45 p.m.

Here are the updates from each in-progress game.

A.L. Brown at West
Charlotte

The Wonders were able to jump all over the Lions, who were taking the field five days after the death of head coach Mo Collins, in the early going of Friday’s game.

A.L. Brown scored 28 straight. Head coach Mike Newsome said Dylan Johnson and Brylan Weeks hooked up for a passing touchdown. Scoring for the Wonders were also Jayln Cagle and Sandon McCoy.

“Yeah, we got off to a good start, but we got a long way to go against a good football team to get a win,” Newsome said.

West Charlotte got on the board with a touchdown before the end of the first half. The game was postponed at halftime because of lightning, and it will resume at 7 p.m. Monday with Brown leading 28-7.

The Wonders (4-5, 2-3) and Lions (4-5, 2-3) went into the game tied for fourth in the Mecka conference standnings.

West Rowan at Cox Mill

It was a bizarre game between the Falcons and Chargers.

The start of the game was delayed by a power outage with the lights on the field. Then the weather hit.

“It’s Halloween night. So it wasn’t a huge crowd,” head coach Scott Young said. “It’s just one of those weird kind of games.”

The Falcons trail the Chargers 12-6 with 1:29 left in the second quarter.

Harrison Baucom put the Falcons on the board with a touchdown run from inside the Cox Mill 5. The extra point was missed.

The Chargers scored a touchdown and got a pair of field goals.

Young said the Falcons left a couple of touchdowns on the field Friday and they need to clean up their mistakes on offense and take care of their responsibilities on defense to come out with the win.

The Falcons (6-3, 4-2) entered the game in possession of third place in the South Piedmont Conference standings.

East Rowan at Central Cabarrus

This was a tightly contested game in Harrisburg.

East Rowan and Central Cabarrus are tied at 7 with 9:53 left in the third quarter.

Head coach Kenneth McClamrock said the defense was playing “lights out” on Friday while the offense just couldn’t put points on the board.

Samuel Wyrick got the Mustangs on the board first with a 2-yard touchdown run with 2:04 left in the first quarter.

At halftime, Wyrick had 103 yards passing and was 13-of-19. The Mustangs had 65 yards rushing as a team.

Central Cabarrus was able to knot the game at 7 before the teams went into the locker room at halftime.

The Vikings had 170 yards rushing and 18 yards passing at the break.

East Rowan started the game tied for fourth in the South Piedmont Conference with Carson and Hickory Ridge. All three teams are 4-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play.

Carson at Hickory Ridge

The Cougars and Ragin’ Bulls are locked in an offensive shootout in Harrisburg.

Hickory Ridge leads Carson 27-22 in the second quarter.

Scoring touchdowns for the Cougars were Andy Lear, Brandon Sloop and Darren Isom.

Carson was ahead 22-7 before Hickory Ridge scored 20 unanswered for a five-point lead at halftime.

Isom leads the Cougars with 74 yards rushing on 13 carries. Sloop has 62 yards on eight carries. Lear has contributed 51 yards on seven attempts.

The game picks up with the Cougars receiving the ball at the start of the second half.

Carson (4-5, 3-3) and Cox Mill (4-5, 3-3) went into a three-way tie for fourth with East Rowan (4-5, 3-3) in the South Piedmont Conference.
