Hornets win thriller

THOMASVILLE — Salisbury and Thomasville went down to the wire Friday night in a tight Central Carolinas Conferen battle.

Down 7-0 in the closing seconds of the game, the Hornets marched theiur way down the field. Salisbury quarerback Riley Myers hit Ryan Jones for a 31-yard touchdown pass with 11.5 seconds left in the game to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 7-6.

The Hornets lined up for the two-point conversion. Antwond Glenn pushed his way into the end zone with the game-winning conversion. Salisbury left Cushwa Stadium with the 8-7 victory.

The win kept the Hornets in a tie for first place in the CCC. Salisbury (4-5, 3-0 CCC) lost five of its first six games of the year, but it has rebounded with three straight wins in conference play.

Salisbury is on the road again next week. The Hornets are at West Davidson on Friday before ending the season at home against North Rowan.

Friday’s game was a tight battle from the start. Aquim Davis had took a hand off on the Salisbury 3. He was met by Donte Gaston, but Davis powered through the tackle for a touchdown. Thomasville was ahead 7-0 with 1 minute, 19 seconds left in the first quarter.

It stayed that way until the heroics of Jones, Myers and Glenn as the game came to a close.
