More than $1 million has been raised during the Rowan County United Way’s 2014-2015 campaign.

The annual campaign started in September and is at 60.1 percent ($1,128,839) of its nearly $1.9 million goal.  One division, Industrial 2, has already surpassed its goal of $51,660.

Greg Dunn, this year’s campaign chair, said he’s “optimistic” they will reach their goal.

The numbers were announced at a report meeting Wednesday at Team Chevrolet on Jake Alexander Boulevard.

Two other divisions are close to reaching their goal. Commercial 2 is at 93 percent of its $101,132 mark, and Special Gifts is at 94 percent of its $155,121 goal.

The campaign raises money for 15 agencies in the county. And this year’s fundraising goal is 3 percent higher than last year.

On display Wednesday was the fundraising success of schools around the county.

• China Grove Middle School reached its goal of $5,000.

• Enochville Elementary has surpassed its goal of $3,500.

• Henderson Independent High School has raised $5,000.

• North Rowan Middle School raised $6,237 — a 21 percent increase from last year.

• Southeast Rowan Middle School has raised $4,800.

• South Rowan had a goal of $6,000, but has raised over $8,000.

The three names picked to be finalists for the new car drawing at the end of campaign were: Nancy Goodson with Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, Louise Klauer with Rowan County YMCA, and Susan Musselman with Rufty-Holmes Senior Center.

The next report meeting is Nov. 5 at Cloninger Ford.
