Police charged a woman Wednesday with possessing chemicals used in heroin just a day after she is believed to have overdosed on the drug.

Emergency officials were called out to the 100 block of Clancy Street Tuesday around 3:45 p.m. for an unconscious woman at an apartment there. She was not breathing and Rowan EMS personnel performed CPR and were able to resuscitate her. She was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center where she was treated and released sometime later.

Police charged Rachel Ann King, 24, with felony possession of an immediate precursor chemical, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and four counts misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said there was a small amount of heroin, a spoon, white armband and a syringe left lying on the kitchen counter.

A male, later determined to be Guy Steven Pearce, 21, called 911 and said he arrived home and saw King stumble to the floor. Pearce said she stopped breathing and he called 911. There were four children, believed to be Rachel King’s children, at the home at the time of the incident.

Police seized three grams of heroin and the drug paraphernalia from the apartment.

Warrants were issued for King the next day and she was charged. She was issued a $5,000 secured bond and remains in the Rowan County Detention Center.

According to a police report, Pearce told officers the heroin belonged to him and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was arrested in the parking lot of K&W Cafeteria.

Pearce, whose address is listed as the streets of Salisbury, was charged Wednesday with possession of a controlled substance schedule I (heroin).

He remains in the county jail under a $2,500 secured bond. Pearce was convicted in 2011 of misdemeanor consuming alcohol by a person under 21. King has a pending misdemeanor larceny case. She is expected in court in December.
