Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin and SHIIP, the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program, will host a town hall event Oct. 29 in Rowan County to educate Medicare beneficiaries about opportunities to lower the cost of their prescription drugs.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  at Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, 1120 S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave.

At the event, SHIIP staff and volunteers will provide information about applying for Extra Help, a federal subsidy for people with limited incomes and assets that assists with Medicare prescription drug plan costs. SHIIP will also emphasize the importance of Medicare beneficiaries reviewing and comparing Medicare Part D prescription drug plans during the Annual Election Period, Oct. 15 – Dec. 7.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact SHIIP Outreach Coordinator Marcia Kelly at marcia.kelly@ncdoi.gov or 1-855-408-1212 or contact Rufty-Holmes Senior Center at 704-216-7714.
