There are still several thousand eligible citizens in Rowan County who are not registered to vote. On Saturday, Oct. 4, teams of volunteers will walk the streets of Salisbury and East Spencer to register them and give out information on voting sites.
Willing volunteers are asked to meet in one of three locations to get packets of names and addresses to contact, voter registration forms and instructions. Volunteers for the west side of Salisbury will meet at Miller Recreations Center, 1402 W. Bank St. Volunteers for the east side of the city will meet at the Wiley Lash Head Start Center, 632 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. S. Volunteers for East Spencer will meet at the Royal Giants Park, 200 Robinson Road.
Canvassing begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.
This voter registration drive is organized by Rowan Concerned Citizens, a nonpartisan community group that has registered more than 200 new voters in the past two months. The goal of the group is to promote community involvement through citizen education.
