Beware of scam offering Home Depot gift cards

The Better Busines Bureau is warning consumers about a Home Depot gift card scam showing up in email.
These emails are phishing scams designed to get you to click on the links and give personal information. BBBs across the country have reported that this scam has been spreading in the last couple of days. The scammers are using Home Depot as the “bait” because the company has been in the news recently for its data breach.
Obviously, Home Depot is not giving away gift cards via email. A huge red flag in this email is the return address – homedpeotATget-usa-DOT com. This clearly is not an email from a home depot domain address because if it was, it would end in “homedepot.com”
The email includes a real Home Depot logo, to further convince recipients the email is real.
BBB has this advice for consumers:
• Do not click on the links in the email or download attachments.
• Delete the email and run your anti-virus software.
• Tell all the members of your family who have email addresses about this scam and phishing scams in general.
