KANNAPOLIS — On Saturday, Oct. 4, Kannapolis Fire Department will hold its annual Open House event at Station 1, 300 Firehouse Drive, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The free event is open to the public.
More than 1,000 people typically attend this event. Please park in the designated area in front of the station.
The open house will include firetruck displays, history of fire service, smoke alarm information, a kids’ firefighter challenge course, safety simulator, Explorer rappelling demonstrations, inflatable games and activities from community partners such as a bicycle rodeo, hot cars display, blood pressure screening, and more.
Kannapolis Fire Department is a drop-off site for Toys for Tots. Bins will be available for those who would like to donate new toys and games to help local families during the holidays.
The Kannapolis Firefighters’ Assistance Foundation (KFAF) will host food sales during the event and will also sell KFAF Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirts.
“This is the largest community event sponsored by Kannapolis Fire Department,” said Kannapolis Fire Chief Ernie Hiers. “We hope that the community will come out and visit with local firefighters and community partners next Saturday.”
The department’s open house kicks off National Fire Prevention Week in Kannapolis. This year’s fire prevention theme is “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month!”
