David Purtell joined the Salisbury Post last week as the new city and business reporter. He will be covering the city of Salisbury and also Spencer.
David was previously a staff writer for the The People-Sentinel newspaper in Barnwell, South Carolina, where he covered several government bodies along with a variety of other topics from business to crime.
He left Barnwell in the spring and spent three months hiking on the Appalachian Trail, a 2,100-mile trail from northern Georgia to Maine. He hiked 1,200 miles of the trail before deciding to get off at the end of July.
David has a degree in journalism from the University of South Carolina. He also has a degree in geography from Michigan State University. His hobbies include hiking, reading, golf and watching sports.
David is a native of Midland, Michigan. His father, Marc Purtell, is a retired police officer and his mother, Mary Jane Purtell, is retired from the Dow Chemical Co. David has one older sister, Christina, who is a nurse.
