Important issues to consider in these troubled times
Too much attention has been given the NFL with the domestic and child abuse situations. The trials seem to be played out in the press and public opinion instead of the courts. We should be more concerned about those types of tragedies that occur, everyday, in our communities. If you do not like what the NFL is doing about it, do not watch the games or buy into the merchandising.
Our national attention should also be focused on the major escalation of our involvement in the Mideast conflicts. I have great sympathy for the families of the slain reporters and aid workers. But retaliating with missiles and bombs that kill innocent people in addition to our enemies is not the answer. We should pull all our government troops and personnel out of the Middle East and stop monetary and military aid. Also important is the local controversy about the West End Plaza. I disagreed with the county’s purchase but now agree with the Salisbury Post that we need to use it to our advantage. Delay will only cost more. To those that oppose a zoning change, I say it makes no difference where those county agencies are, as they will still be in Salisbury. It is to everyone’s advantage in Rowan County (including Salisbury), to allow the zoning variance and get going with using it for our best interest. This is a better plan than spending the big bucks for a central school office.
Finally, concerning the Plaza zoning issue, this is a fine example of why our government should stay out of commerce better suited for the private sector. If Rowan County would have preformed the proper due diligence, the zoning issue would have been discovered before closing on the property.

Salon should keep name
I think it is unfortunate that the former Landis Salon known as Isis (now Taylor Made) felt the need to change its name. They had taken the name Isis (which is different from the acronym ISIS) long before that band of psychotic killer thugs ever appeared on the the horizon, and the name Isis has been around since ancient Egypt.
I understand why the salon changed its name, but I believe that a golden promotional opportunity was missed. I think it would have been applauded and cheered by America if the the owners of the salon would have made a symbolic gesture of demanding that the ISIS terror organization change their name, since the good people at the salon had it first.

Cleaner and happier
The writer is referring to a letter in the Sept. 17 paper, “Let’s clean up town.”
I, too, have had the same experience. I recently moved to Salisbury and it was the same at previous North Carolina locations. After spending one month in Vermont I noticed how clean the towns were up there.
The shopping malls would wash their entire parking lots EVERY night.
?There was no trash or garbage lying around. It seemed like everyone had a happier attitude. Wonder if the cleanliness had something to do with it?
