School board to discuss test scores Monday

The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will discuss students’ test scores, graduation rates and other state accountability measures for the 2013-14 school year on Monday.
Dr. Julie Morrow, assistant superintendent of curriculum, and Dr. Chaunte Garret, director of testing and accountability, will dissect results from the 2013-14 Accountability Report from the N.C. Department of Public Education for the board.
Both individual schools and the district as a whole were graded and compared to their performance in the past.
The board will also discuss and vote on its energy performance contract with Energy Systems Group.
Board members will talk about draft contracts for the planned school system central office, Knox Middle School and new elementary school projects, as well as a their current appeals committee process and background check process.
The beginning teacher support program is also on Monday’s agenda, as well as a discussion about the maintenance department’s needs.
The board will discuss a proposed property gift off Heilig Road by JTW Reality North Carolina LLC, which is valued at $828,290.
The upcoming Literacy Summit, scheduled for Sept. 26 at Hood Theological Seminary, is also on the meeting agenda.
Minutes from the board’s Aug. 28 and Sept. 8 meetings, the 2014-15 budget resolution, August financial summary, policies on tobacco products, student behavior, disciplinary action, bullying and construction projects and a field trip for East Rowan High School students to Hanging Rock State Park are on the board’s consent agenda.
