KANNAPOLIS — Earlier this year, the city of Kannapolis Parks & Recreation Department asked for input on what the priorities for Parks and Recreation facilities should be over the next ten years. The city held public workshops and conducted online and telephone surveys as they worked to gather information from the public.
A Parks & Recreation Master Plan based on citizen input has now been drafted.
Tonight at 7 p.m., in the Village Park Building, the city would like the public to join the city for an overview of the new Parks & Recreation Master Plan. The city will discuss the types of parks, playgrounds, recreational centers and amenities such as ball fields and greenways that have been identified as a need in our city. This plan, once adopted by City Council, will give Kannapolis a blueprint to improve parks, greenways and recreational facilities.
Kannapolis Child Car Seat Clinic — Parents of elementary, pre-K or younger children are invited to a car seat event today, 5-8 p.m., in the parking lot across from school administration building, 100 Denver St. Kannapolis Police, Fire and others will install seats for free. The city will also have new car seats on hand for replacement at a reduced cost for outdated, damaged or car seats missing parts.
Citizen recognition — The Kannapolis City Council would like to recognize people who play a significant role in volunteering and providing service to organizations and the citizens of the city.
To accomplish this, the City Council has established an Outstanding Volunteer Award. Anyone can nominate a person for the award by completing a nomination form. People should be nominated for their service to organizations and people, the impact they have made on the lives of others and how they have met the critical needs of their community.
“We have hundreds of volunteers who help people every day in our city and receive no accolades for their efforts. We want to say thank you to these volunteers. They make Kannapolis a great community,” said Kannapolis Mayor Darrell Hinnant. “This is a way we can let them know that their service is appreciated and applauded.”
