Yesterday: Church choirs combine for 1956 concert at Livingstone College

Jean Little of Salisbury provided this photograph of combined choirs of Soldiers Memorial and Moore’s Chapel AME Zion churches presenting a concert at Livingstone College in 1956. Little could identify many of the singers. In the front row, left to right, are Lorene Heath, Arletta Bingham, Avis Monroe, Fletcher Brown, Pauline Wright, a Mrs. Trent, unknown, Victoria Yates, Lavolia Vails, Marybelle Johnson, Lucille Satterwhite and Elois Simpson. The middle row, left to right, includes Joan Montgomery, Mabel Miller Jones, Grace Curlee, Mary Nance Brown, a Mrs. Hopkins, Myrtle McGarity, Mary Perkins, Doris Jones, Reba Kelsey and unknown. The third row includes, left to right, Clarke Coffin, Edward Mitchell Sr., Norris Currence, Andrew Wittington, John Nicholson, Robert Bingham, A.R. Kelsey, unknown, unknown and Ruby Johnson. Soldiers Memorial is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year.
