The Rowan County Board of Commissioners on Monday decided on a candidate to offer its county manager position.
Commissioners Chairman Jim Sides declined to name the candidate, saying he would first ask the person if he was interested in the job. Sides said the board, if its finalist accepts the job, could approve a new county manager at it Sept. 2 meeting, at the earliest.
The commissioners met at 4 p.m. to discuss finalists for the county manager position. The closed-door meeting lasted nearly an hour.
Chairman Jim Sides said 13 candidates applied for the position. Sides said the commission considered four finalists during its Monday meeting, narrowing the field to one.
Current county manager Gary Page is retiring. His last day is Friday.
