Flowers, pets, landscapes, still-life, portraits, seascapes and abstract designs will be among the featured subjects in the Carolina Artists annual Expo, to be held Aug. 19-22, with a Meet the Artists reception 6-8 p.m. tonight.
Approximately 200 pieces of art by 40 local artists will be on display, most of which will be offered for sale. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in five categories: oil/acrylic, watercolor, photography, drawings/pastel/mixed media, and three-dimensional art.
Purchase awards will be given by The Trophy House and Old Stone Winery.
Judging the show will be well-known Salisbury artist, Frank Saunders. Frank holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in art from Western Carolina University. He taught art for more than 30 years at Salisbury High School and since retirement has taught classes in Mooresville, Charlotte, Mocksville, and at Waterworks Visual Art Center. Frank has been featured artist in solo shows and has judged area art shows.
Along with The Carolina Artists, the expo is sponsored by Rowan Arts Council, NC Arts Council, Jerry’s Shell, Salisbury Parks and Recreation and Cheerwine.
This year’s expo is dedicated to the late Connie McNeill, long-time Carolina Artist member and supporter.
Show hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. today and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. For more information, contact the Salisbury Civic Center at 704-638-5275 or visit www.carolinaartist.org.
