A Louisiana company announced Tuesday that it has bought Salisbury-based MedExpress Pharmacy.
Avita Drugs Pharmacy, which operates primarily in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas but offers some services in a dozen other states, says the acquisition will expand its presence along the East Coast while providing MedExpress with better marketing opportunities and expertise.
Avita and MedExpress are both specialty pharmacies. MedExpress owners David Post, Jon Post and Joe Hager built the business — which David Post bought out of bankruptcy — into one on the Inc. 5,000 fastest-growing private companies in America by specializing in filling prescriptions for HIV/AIDS patients through mail order.
Avita is currently undergoing several accreditations that are scheduled for completion this year, a news release said. Avita’s portfolio of limited-distribution drugs and access to exclusive specialty-pharmacy payer contracts will benefit MedExpress’ current offerings, it said.
Avita has been in business since 2003 and has pharmacy locations in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Dallas and San Antonio. Avita’s corporate office is in Baton Rouge, La.
