Controlled burn takes down house in Rockwell for training

ROCKWELL — Several local fire departments and Rowan County EMS conducted training with a controlled burn at 407 Main St. on Saturday.
Darryl Hollar, a firefighter with Gold Hill Volunteer Fire Department, said Rockwell, Rockwell Rural, Meade, Gold Hill and Liberty fire departments worked with Rowan EMS during the training event that started at 8 a.m.
Intense flames finally engulfed the Rockwell home around 11:30 a.m. as interested onlookers watched.
