Are you afraid of things that go bump in the night?
The Historic Gold Hill Village Ghost Walk is at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Registration begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Arbor.
Guided walks are $5. Children under 6 can go for free.
A map on directional signs will be in the village at 840 St. Stephens Church Road, Gold Hill.
Stories for the July Ghost Walk are sponsored by the Merchants’ Association.
Several stories will recount ghostly experiences people have had in the buildings in the village, including the Montgomery General Store (story by Willie Page), Mauney’s (Jodi Davis) and the restaurant (Cindy Scott). There will be six stories altogether. The other three (all set in Gold Hill) are “A Slack Noose and a Shallow Grave” by Ben Callahan, “Scratch the Dog” by Sandy Hickman and “The Tommy Knockers” by Fred Kessler.

Salisbury Criterium coming up July 31
The 2014 Giordana Crossroads Classic bicycle race and festival will visit Salisbury and four other Piedmont cities next week: Mocksville, Kannapolis, Statesville and Asheboro.
The classic is six days of fast-paced bike racing. Cyclists will take part in downtown criteriums and in longer road races. The $20,000 purse attracts some of the nation’s best pros, along with local cyclists all trying to get their part of the action.

Community rally in support of Israel
CHARLOTTE — The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte will host a community rally in support of Israel, Sunday at 2 p.m. at Romare Bearden Park in Uptown Charlotte.
“The Charlotte community joins others across the country and the world in support of Israel,” said Sue Worrel, executive director, Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte. “The state of Israel has the right to defend itself against its enemies, and it is important for Jews and non-Jews to stand in support of their efforts.”
The rally will feature Congressman Robert Pittenger, Consul General of Israel to the Southeastern United States Opher Aviaran, community leaders and prayers for peace.

Chief Justice Parker designates Judge Linda McGee as Court of Appeals chief judge
RALEIGH — Chief Justice Sarah Parker has designated Judge Linda McGee as chief judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Current Chief Judge John C. Martin will step down from the bench and retire on Aug. 1.
McGee has served on the Court of Appeals since 1995 when she was appointed by former Gov. James B. Hunt Jr. She will take over for Judge Martin, who has served as Court of Appeals chief judge since 2004.
