Deceased moped driver still unidentified

A man is dead after head-on collision between a scooter and a car Thursday night.
Around 9:35 p.m., an unknown Hispanic male in his 40s or 50s on a moped was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 70 between Salisbury and Cleveland. He collided with Jerry Earnhardt of Salisbury, who was traveling east in his 1994 Buick, according to the Highway Patrol.
The moped was orange and black, and the driver was wearing a silver helmet. At that point, U.S. 70 has four lanes, divided by a grassy median.
Cleveland and Woodleaf fire departments were on the scene at 10 p.m., as well as Rowan County EMS and the Rowan County Sheriff’s department
Trooper S.L. Herrin of the Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
At this time, the Highway Patrol is still trying to determine the identity of the moped operator. If anyone has any information concerning his identity, they are asked to call the Highway Patrol at 704-639-7574 or 704-857-1047.
