A motorist crashed into a scooter on U.S. 70 Thursday night, killing the person on board.
Rescue crews were setting up light towers for the investigation just after the 9:35 p.m. accident near the Performance Fibers plant on Statesville Boulevard. The Highway Patrol was investigating.
Cleveland and Woodleaf fire departments were on the scene at 10 p.m., as well as Rowan County EMS. Calls for an ambulance were canceled after the fatality was confirmed.
