Eating trends in the United States seem to be going in opposite directions — while some people focus on more healthful, fresh local foods and reasonable portions, restaurants keep upping the high-fat game. McDonald’s 550-calorie Big Mac, once the benchmark for American food consumption, has been far surpassed by several offerings, such as Burger King’s 1,200-calorie Triple Whopper with cheese. Not sure if what you’re ordering might be too loaded with calories? Men’s Health magazine offers a simple guideline: “Never eat foods that are named for their oversized dimensions.”
