What? Cal Thomas seems to be agreeing with those of us who have difficulty with the local practice of Christian prayers opening public meetings! I don’t think anyone could call him a liberal, Satanic force!
— Karen South Jones

I think Mr. Thomas writes wisely here. He reminds us that, even though the Supreme Court offered an opinion on the tradition of public prayers, the best praying that gets done in our lives happens privately and separate from the limelight. … Too often at public events, this wonderful privilege is reduced to window dressing and showmanship. That’s a shame.
— Kent Bernhardt

I don’t often disagree with Cal Thomas, but this is a freedom of speech issue. Sometimes, a person is an employee of the government. Sometimes, a person is an elected official. At ALL TIMES, a citizen is a citizen, and the Bill of Rights was designed to protect the rights of individual citizens.
— Stephen Owen

Apparently, Rowan County needs to borrow money to afford borrowing more money. That’s what passes as “conservative values” around here.
— Roy Bentley

Let me get this straight. Edds was the only candidate to not sign this letter because he wanted to consult with Gary Page? That would be the same Gary Page who spearheaded the purchase of the mall, right? …
— Bill Cameron

Being that the mall issue was central to the election, the results of the election should be interpreted as a mandate for the outgoing comission to cease all action on the mall issue until the new comission takes seats.
— Kent Smith
