EAST SPENCER — Police charged a Salisbury man with felony drug possession and child abuse while serving arrest warrants on other unrelated charges.
East Spencer Police charged Antonio Jamell Sullivan, 32, of the 1700 block of North Long Street, with felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver schedule VI, felony maintaining a vehicle for selling and delivering schedule VI, child abuse and a citation for a child restraint violation.
East Spencer Police arrested Sullivan on June 20. He was wanted for failure to appear in court for expired registration and inspection.
Sullivan was in his 2006 Grand Marquis along with three minor children in East Spencer. Police said Sullivan took them on a short foot chase and was shortly thereafter apprehended.
Officers said when they approached Sullivan they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officers searched Sullivan’s car, but didn’t find anything illegal. A statement said officers continued to smell marijuana.
Sullivan was taken to the East Spencer Police Department and searched. Officers found a large plastic bag with smaller 14 individually packaged bags with marijuana inside. The bag was found in the groin area of Sullivan’s basketball shorts. Police also seized a large sum of cash.
Sullivan received an $11,000 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.
Sullivan also has pending court cases in Stanly and Cabarrus counties. He is expected in court later this month to address those court cases.
