Affordable Care Act worked for me
Things happen in life that you do not plan, make arrangements for or can afford. I never had a sick day in my life until I was 60, I had been paying into a health care plan through my employment. Then, in 2009, I had a double hip replacement. In 2010, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
I was a self-employed pet groomer and paid for a policy with Blue Cross & Blue Shield. My cost started at $300 per month, and over 10 years the amount went up to $600. In December 2013, I received a letter from BCBS saying my insurance for the next year would be $823 per month with a $2,500 deductible. I am a retired citizen on a fixed income, so I panicked.
During this time President Obama was starting to sign up citizens for his Affordable Health Care Plan, so I thought, what the heck, let’s see if I can get insurance at a price I can afford.
I called and spoke with a nice young man who gave me the different plans and the pricing for each one. I qualified for a subsidy and signed up for the same plan with the same benefits that I had before at half the price.
I now pay $426 per month with a $1,000 deductible. I even have the same doctors for my hip problems and breast cancer.
Eight million people have signed up for the Affordable Care Act, and I am one of them. I am so grateful for President Obama’s Health Care Plan and that Sen. Kay Hagan voted for it. That is why I am voting for Senator Hagan. She saw the need to provide affordable health care to those who do not have a policy or cannot afford it.

Not with my money
The writer is reacting to a May 20 story, “Policy revision opens door to Gay-Straight Alliance in schools.”
There is no way you are going to use my tax dollars for allowing the use of our schools for this wicked teaching. This will be just as wicked as Sodom and Gomorrah. God destroyed those cities for these sins.
Most don’t understand what’s going here, Just look at the AIDS virus. I don’t want to judge others. Jesus is the only hope for all sinners. We are all sinners and need God’s forgiveness.
Citizens and the true church, who know the Bible and its word is final, please call and write the school board and Rowan County commissioners. Looks like our new leaders have lost their way and possibly need to be replaced. I was all set to see our schools go forward, but this is a step backwards.
I wanted to see our school board get the new offices uptown. If this is what is coming from the new leadership, just as well keep the old school board meeting place.
It’s not too late. We need to reverse this policy and never bring this up again.
A warning from God, Isaiah 5:20: “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Citizens of Rowan County, we need honesty and love, and love your neighbor as yourself. Please help stop this madness.
