Salisbury investigators say they want residents in the Fulton Heights neighborhood to call them if they believe they were approached by a man who was charged overnight with soliciting prostitution.
Jose Exequiel Colindres, 32, of the 500 block of Heilig Avenue, is charged with misdemeanor soliciting prostitution. Police say they’d received a few complaints from residents in the neighborhood who said a man, possibly in his 30s, had approached them offering to pay them for sex.
Salisbury Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said Colindres is accused of approaching teen girls to older women. Authorities arrested him Thursday night following an undercover operation. Colindres approached an undercover officer and asked she had a boyfriend. The officer told Colindres she did not. He reportedly told the officer he had “not been with a woman in two years.”
He then offered to pay her $30 in exchange for sexual favors, Lingle said.
The officer and Colindres negotiated the terms, and he told her they could go to his apartment around the corner. As Colindres led the officer, other police officers were around the corner waiting, and he was arrested.
Lingle said someone had called police about seeing Colindres in a particular area and officers staked out the area. Two undercover female officers were used, but Lingle said Colindres approached only one.
It is not clear how long Colindres has been living in the neighborhood. Colindres was issued a $2,500 secured bond and remained in the Rowan County Detention Center this morning.
Investigators ask other possible victims or anyone with information to call 704-638-5333 and ask for Sgt. Justin Crews.
