Rowan jobless rate unchanged in March

Rowan County’s unemployment rate was unchanged in March compared to the month before.
The 6.7 percent jobless rate was the same as February, but down 1.8 percentage points from a year ago, according to statistics released today by the N.C. Employment Security Commission. In March, that meant of the county’s 68,589 registered workers, 4,564 were out of work.
In surrounding counties, unemployment rates didn’t move much, if at all. In Cabarrus County, the jobless rate was 5.8 percent in March, down from 5.9 percent in February; Davie County, unchanged at 6.1 percent; Davidson County, unchanged at 6.8 percent; Iredell County, 6.3 percent, down from 6.6 percent; and Stanly County, 6 percent, down from 6.1 percent.
Statewide, the March unemployment rate was 6.6 percent, the same as February. Graham County in the western part of the state had the highest rate at 12.7 percent, while Chatham County in central North Carolina had the lowest at 4.6 percent.
