Hanford-Dole Elementary School’s first-graders enjoyed the April Book Club presentation last week.

Helen Peacock, retired librarian from the Rowan Public Library and Communities In Schools volunteer tutor, was the guest reader for the book, “Duck on a Bike.”

The story was about Duck’s barnyard adventure on his bicycle with his animal friends.

Peacock was entertaining, kept the students’ interested in the book and asked questions on comprehension throughout the presentation — even joking a little while reading.

The Hanford-Dole Book Club is sponsored by grants from Target stores, Schneider Electric and Communities In Schools of Rowan County.

Fran Simpson, Communities In Schools site coordinator, did a parent presentation on reading and writing to the parents as a follow-up on the book that was read.
