A West Bank Street man turned himself in to authorities overnight nearly two weeks after a Grim Street shooting landed one man in the hospital after a dispute following a card game.
Salisbury Police officials say Thomas Edwin Brown, 54, of the 1300 block of West Bank Street, was charged Wednesday with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. The victim, was shot in the chest and taken to the hospital, was later reported to be fine.
The shooting was the second on Grim Street in four weeks. During this incident, police responded to a shots fired call in the 400 block of Grim Street at 11 p.m. April 12. Officers received information that two males were fighting on the front porch of a home. There was a barbecue at a home there and the two men had been playing cards prior to the argument.
On March 22, police responded to three people who were shot at the corner of Grim Street and Alexander Lane. One man, James Jermaine Little, was found lying on a porch. Henry Lee Wilder Jr., 27, of East Spencer, was also shot and dropped off at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. The third victim, Antoine Nicholas Darnelle Cherry, 30, of Salisbury, drove himself to the hospital.
Brown was convicted in the late 1990s of failing to obey police and driving while license revoked. He was also convicted in 2008 of misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun. Brown was issued a $5,000 secured bond and has since been released from the Rowan County jail.
