On Monday, April 28, at 7 p.m. UNC-TV will host a one-hour debate among four candidates for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate. The debate will be held at the UNC-TV studios in Research Triangle Park and will be moderated by UNC-TV senior correspondent Kelly McCullen. The participating candidates will be Thom Tillis, currently Speaker of the House of the North Carolina General Assembly, physician Greg Brannon, pastor Mark Harris and Heather Grant, a nurse practitioner and military veteran.
The date of the primary election is May 6, and if no candidate gets more than 40 percent of the vote, there will be a runoff election between the top two finishers on July 15. The winner will face incumbent Democrat Kay Hagan in the general election Nov. 4.
The debate will be broadcast statewide on UNC-TV, and the feed of the broadcast will be available to other media in North Carolina. UNC-TV is North Carolina’s statewide public television network.
