The 2014 Downtown Salisbury Friday Night Out series kicks off with Earth Night Out this Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.

Here are some of the family-friendly festivities:
• Shops and restaurants staying open late, many featuring specials
• Free trolley rides
• The Lord Salisbury Easter Egg Hunt in participating stores (pick up a map in the stores)
• Rock climbing wall
• Horse and carriage rides
• Fun activities in the Kids Zone (beside K-Dee’s Jewelers) including Magic by Glen, face painting, Dan Nicholas Park animals, the Chick-fil-A Cow, and the NC Transportation Museum’s Easter bunny
• Free tree sapling and flower seeds (while supplies last) on the Square
• Live music from local bands
Music on Fisher Street

On East Fisher Street, those strolling through the downtown will hear the Marc Hoffman Trio. Salisbury native Hoffman will be joined by well known Charlotte area musicians Brian Sullivan on drums and Dave Vergato on bass. The trio will perform standard jazz, pop and originals.
Two Catawba bands to perform

In front of the new Downtown Catawba location at 100 West Innes St., two bands made up of Catawba students will be performing.
From 5 to 7 p.m. the Olivia Albertson Band will play music “spirited with the soul of the South.” Olivia, a senior music major from Thomasville, performs vocals and plays guitar, accompanied by band members Nathan Riddle, a junior honors music major from Kannapolis; Pen Chance, a senior theatre arts administration major from Augusta, Ga.; and Greg Moore, a junior music major from Durham.
The Olivia Albertson Band will also present a senior showcase performance in Catawba’s Hedrick Little Theatre on May 3, preceding a Vernaculars performance.

Then from 7 to 9 p.m. four members of Life Size, a pop/rock band made up of Catawba College students, will perform their mixture of folk, pop, rock and blues highlighted by creative vocal harmonies.
Life Size members on hand will include Jake Martin (vocals/guitar) of St. Louis, Mo.; Allijah Motika (vocals/guitar/piano) of Asheville; Tevin Carr (drums) of Statesville; and Greg Moore (bass/vocals) of Durham.
After the Life Size members wrap their set at Downtown Catawba, they will then head over to Uncle Buck’s at 127 S. Main St. to play from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.
