ROCKWELL — Another company wants to build a solar farm in Rowan County.
O2 Energies will propose a solar farm for Rockwell during an announcement at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Gateway Building, 204 E. Innes St. in Salisbury.
Rockwell Solar LLC is a proposed 4.25-megawatt DC solar farm in Rockwell that would be developed, owned and operated by O2 Energies, a company based in Cornelius, according to a news release from RowanWorks Economic Development Commission. The solar farm would provide work for more than 50 people and contractors during four months of construction.
The project would add about $2 million to Rowan County’s tax base, the EDC said.
“We are excited about adding another solar power plant to our operation and moving into Rowan County,” said Joel Olsen, president of O2 Energies. “We believe the area is perfect for our operation and look forward to working with business leaders, elected officials and educators in Rowan County.”
Olsen said O2 Energies is committed to maximizing local economic development and work opportunities with each project, as well as generating more property tax revenues for towns and counties. He said the company offers jobs for local construction crews, electrical contractors, banks and site preparation firms.
Rowan County commissioners have approved several solar farms recently, and Salisbury City Council will consider a proposed solar farm off Sherrills Ford Road.
