Kannapolis Police: Two shot following Sunday altercation, both critical

KANNAPOLIS — Police are investigating a Sunday shooting that left a Charlotte man and a Kannapolis man in critical condition. Few details were released regarding the shooting, but Kannapolis Police officials say the incident happened at 6:25 p.m. in the area of Indiana and Utah streets.

The police department received a report of the shooting incident in the area. Once officers arrived, they discovered two people had been shot during an altercation.

Police say the victims are 21-year-old Xavier Marquez Parks of Kannapolis and Antonio Maurice Montgomery Jr., also 21, of Charlotte. Both men were taken to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast and are reported to be in critical but stable condition.

The Kannapolis Police Department Criminal Investigations Division is working to identify and interview several witnesses as well as establish the relationship between the victims. Officials say this is still a very active investigation and no further information will be released at this time in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.
