Rowan weather: Just rain today
Sorry kids, there are no snowflakes, warnings or advisories in today’s forecast from the National Weather Service. Whew.
We can expect rain today, mainly before 2 p.m., but the temperature is already above freezing and the high is expected to reach 48 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
Tonight will be mostly clear with a low of 25 and wind gusts up to 20 mph from the northeast.
If you really want to see some snow, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for 10 counties in the western part of the state until midnight today. Forecasters say 2 to 4 inches of snow are possible around Boone, Newland and Spruce Pine. Up to 5 inches of snow are possible at the highest elevations near Waynesville.
The advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday in the southwestern mountains. Up to 2 inches of snow are possible at higher elevations around Murphy.
It was snowing in Boone and Jefferson early today.
But here in the Piedmont, Wednesday will be sunny, but cool, with a high of 48 again. The low Wednesday will be around 27.
Thursday, we’ll see a little warmer temperatures, with a high of 59 and partly sunny skies. There’s a 20 percent chance of showers after 10 p.m., with a low of 42.
Friday brings a 60 percent chance of showers, mainly after 11 a.m. Look for cloudy skies and a high near 64. The chance for showers continues into Friday night, with a low around 50.
We might have a few thunderstorms Saturday, with a high near 67. Chance of rain is 50 percent. Lows should be around 40.
The best day of the weekend will be Sunday, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 64.
