Novant Health Rowan Medical Center is hosting an education session today for people who need to sign up for a health insurance plan under the Affordable Care Act or have questions about the federal health insurance marketplace.

The deadline to sign up for a plan under the Affordable Care Act — also known as Obamacare — is March 31.

The drop-in event will take place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Hotel Salisbury. Brokers and financial navigators will be on site to answer questions and enroll participants in marketplace plans. Prediabetes, obesity and blood pressure screenings will be available at the event, as well.

“We know navigating the marketplace — including if you qualify for a federal subsidy — can be confusing, and that’s why Novant Health wants to make sure our community members have a trusted place where they can get their questions answered and receive assistance signing up for a plan,” Dari Caldwell, president of Rowan Medical Center, said in a news release.

People who are uninsured, purchase their own health insurance, or are looking for coverage that fits their budget may be eligible to purchase insurance through the marketplace. All marketplace plans will:

• Cover doctor visits, hospitalizations, maternity care, emergency room care and prescriptions.

• Not deny coverage for pre-existing conditions.

• Offer individuals the opportunity for financial assistance to help with the cost of coverage.

The Community Care Clinic, China Grove Family Medicine and the Department of Social Services will be at the event as well.

The event is open to the public and interpreters will be on site.

Visit NovantHealth.org/healthexchange for additional information about the marketplace, as well as a list of resources.
