Honorably discharged veterans who live in North Carolina can now have their veteran status designated on their driverís license or state-issued ID.

The designation will be printed in blue on the front and back of the license and can help veterans show their status to qualify for discounts with various retail stores, hotels, restaurants and entertainment facilities across the state.

The new license can be obtained from any Department of Motor Vehicle office, and veterans do not need to wait until their renewal date to obtain one. To apply, go in person to any DMV office and present current license, DD-214 or a certified copy, and $10 to pay for the duplicate license.

To learn more about the new veteranís drivers license, contact the Rowan County Veteran Resource office at 704-216-8138.
